DMR sucked in Reach. I think 343 brought it back and tried to make it popular rather then leave it in Reach where its still hated.Well, its popular, just among the wrong crowd.
I would not miss it if the DMR or Lightrifle were removed in Halo 5.
Long Range weapons turn the game into a snipe-fest and promote camping. I can at least tolerate and respect the Lightrifle to a degree, but I despise the DMR.
I think the game would improve if they removed sniper rifles and reduced the range and power of the dmr. It doesn’t take much skill to camp and snipe, and it ruins the close combat phase of the game. Really notice it on ragnarok.
I think more map variety really solves the over use of precision weapons. That being said I don’t see 343i removing the DMR simply because it’s unpopular with a certain group.

I dislike snipers as well, but I wouldn’t go as far as removing them from the game.
Oh yeah, Its the DMR all right. Its not the express delivered power weapons or the random world ordinance that discourage any forward map control. Or Mantis that simply camp their half of the map a because it is suicidal to go into enemy territory chock full of power weapons, while simultaneously preventing enemies from moving out with flanks or light vehicles.
Its one of the few primaries in the game with consistency and a solid killtime that is the problem. Clearly. I mean duh…

the sniper is the weapon that requires most skill… but thanks to H4s huge aim assist everyone can hit headshots.
Why do so many people assume that they know what “halo” is supposed to be? Why do so many people that they alone understand what the essence of “halo” is supposed to look like?
You don’t. If you didn’t make it, or if you weren’t ever in the creation process, you have absolutely zero knowledge.
Expressing an opinion isn’t assuming that you know what halo should be, everyone has there own opinion on that. I prefer close combat, some prefer using camo and camping with a sniper rifle, each to his own.

Absolutely. I agree with you. I am referring to the OP and countless others who say “Sitting back and using the DMR is simply not halo” which is his title. Or “ordinance drops aren’t halo.”
Do I like ordinance drops? No. But I’m not going to say “Ordinance drops ruin what halo is supposed to be.” I’m not so conceited as to assume I know, nor should anyone else be.
I like camping out in the Scorpion. I get in one spot and kill-away. I’m terribly disappointed I can not activate some AC for he tank…
OT: DMR to stay in Halo 5. Whether it will be a load-out weapon, Ordnance Drop, or map pickup, I don’t care.BTW, anyone who thinks that OD, AAs, LOs and the DMR etc won’t be back in Halo 5 are in for a rude surprise.

The players have every right to judge what they believe a Halo game should be. After all, they’re the ones that the product is being made for, should they not be allowed to have any judgements on it?
While I love both Halo Reach and Halo 4, it would be foolish of me to deny that they have lacked in popularity compared to past Halo games. Sure, there is the reason of there being other games out there to offer competition, but what about the problems with these past two Halo games themselves?
Some people say that the addition of Ordnance Drops or Loadouts is what made people stop playing Halo, which are valid points. However, both on these forums and in my personal experience by talking to people who used to play Halo all the time, but have now moved on to CoD, I’ve noticed that the most popular argument for Halo Reach and Halo 4 being letdowns among them is the DMR. I agree with them on this point, the DMR has brought into the series the idea of extreme-range fighting, which is something that Halo never had before. With the DMR in place, map flow has been completely ruined, and what used to be a game of tactically moving around the map to beat other players has now become a game of sitting back with a DMR.
Camping was never a part of Halo in the main trilogy, which is one thing that I absolutely loved about it. But now that camping is far more common in Reach and Halo 4 with the DMR (and Active Camo, but this isn’t what the thread is about), the Halo series has lost that one thing that was very important to it. For the sake of the franchise, I do hope that the DMR is removed. It’s a good weapon and idea in theory, but in practice it just doesn’t work. The most fun I’ve had in this game was in the very few games where no player used a DMR and everybody had BRs or Carbines. I enjoyed those games as much, if not more than I enjoyed playing Halo 3. It’s too late to change Halo 4 this drastically, but for the sake of the rest of the trilogy, I hope that things get changed.

OP please put in your halo 1 disk and walk around blood gulch. Now please load up halo 4 and try walking around (no sprinting). Notice the diffidence? Halo 4’s DMR is nto to blame for it being OP. Rather it is the ridiculously slow movement speed which makes hitting other players ridiculously easy.
H4 uses H3’s movement speed (while shooting) which was designed for projectile burst weapons not hitscan single shot weapons. Halo CE with its fast movement speed was built for this which is why a weapon even stronger than the DMR was fine in CE.
