Since When?

I noticed playing recently that after I enter a new csr rank that I can now drop out of it. I always thought that once you reach the next csr rank you can’t drop out of it. Or at least that was the case until a resent update changed it quietly. It just irks me every time I see myself drop out of diamond one back to platinum six, when I placed in diamond.

It’s been like that for a good while now.

The CSR system experienced an adjustment a long, long time ago (probably several months back) where if one reaches Onyx rank, they cannot hold onto it for extended periods of time despite losing multiple matches in a row. Now, you can lose it like any other rank.

What they said, and it didn’t happen quietly. It was actually part of the Message of the Day, as well as in Community Update. It works better this way. You are where you should be.

Man you are way late to the party. This change was a long long time ago. It’s was needed and how it should be. If you aren’t being successful at a rank you should drop.

Yeah, you’re pretty late on this one but they were pretty public about the change and it was a pretty unpopular decision.

Why would it be “needed?”
Why does it matter to you if he gets to keep his cute little diamond emblem next to his name & feel good about his accomplishment?
It’s just switching the display from “current tier” to “maximum tier,” it’s purely cosmetic.

The only reason it was changed in the first place was due to pressure from idiots who didn’t understand the ranking system and assumed that 343 was too dumb to keep track of MMR separately.
That’s appeasement, not necessity.

And in the end, those same people still make wild assumptions about the ranking system & rage at 343 over non-existent issues regardless.
All the change did was disappoint people who liked the “max tier” style, the complainers still complain and threaten to quit playing either way.

They tweaked the ranking system so you can derank one division almost a year ago.

Whatever… If you win you rank up if you lose you rank down. How is it helping any other player if you are losing but not de-ranking? That is how skill based ranking should work.

You are deranking, it’s just that your division is not the same as your rank, they are 2 different things.
You’re comparing apples & oranges, the old & new systems literally represent 2 completely different concepts.

Original design - Your division is your maximum milestone, the 1-6 number is your current rank following the achievement of that milestone
New design - Only current rank

All they did was dumb down the system & give you even less information by joining both division & rank into the same thing.
It makes the entire rank/division distinction pointless & redundant, you might as well just either go back to 1-50 or reach’s % within the division. There’s no longer any point in having a 1-6 rank other than to have more emblems.

Even under 1-50, Halo 3 also had this distinction.
You could look either at their current rank in a playlist, or you could look at their “max rank.”
Once you hit level 40, you had officially achieved the milestone of Colonel and you didn’t have to worry about losing that “trophy.” But at no point was this ever intended to be confused with your current numbered rank, which was a separate thing & could still move down

2 separate metrics to indicate 2 separate things, just like Halo 5’s division/rank dynamic.
The only difference is that Halo 5 slightly altered how the information is delivered by going 1 step further in extending this dynamic to be unique to each playlist rather than as a global division/milestone.
But apparently that was 1 step too complicated for people to understand, so 343 caved into the ignorant masses and simply removed that distinction all together, a move which ultimately did nothing to remedy the endless complaints from people salty that they can’t rank up.

Agreed. Just because you placed onyx doesn’t mean you should stay there for free

Exactly… Or any other rank tier.

Welcome to 2017 boy. This change happened ages ago in 2016.

That’s always been a thing. If you win but start a losing streak, it can take you out of your CSR, one of the factors in the existence of smurf accounts.

What?!? People confused by convoluted, multiple, and overlapping forms of skill-tracking that change, sometimes dramatically, not only from game to game, but sometimes within a single title? Who woulda thought?

It was needed due to ‘rank inflation’ where players could be carried to Onyx or other and just lose repeatedly and still keep their rank.

CSR - Competitive Skill Ranking
Silver, gold, onyx, etc. are divisions that separate different players. The reason you attain these divisions is because you have played to the standard of that division consistently. Segments (1-6 or 1500 - whatever the #200 champ is CSR points), are just showing your progress to the next division and is used in conjunction with your MMR (MatchMaking Rating) to place you against your opponents

I think its a good system, that’s hard not to notice really

Has anyone ever genuinely placed bronze? Like legit. Not the smurf accounts that we’ve seen. But seriously placed in bronze? I’ve never seen a legit bronze. When I see a bronze get 30k, 3d,… I know it’s a smurf.

I’ve seen plenty of legit bronze players. If you play a lot of Social, you’ll run into them at some point in time.

It has been like this since launch I believe, probably so that players don’t be stuck in the same rank constantly.
