I think the needler is the most consistent weapons throughout all of Halo, and I love it. The weapon has changed very little throughout the games, but I have a suggestion for future games that would up the excitement around what should be considered a power weapon:
The needler should have a different melee attack from other weapons. Instead of whacking someone with the butt of the gun, the gun should get flipped around and swung needles first into the opposing player. All needles left in the clip should count toward a super-combine.
If a player is hit with a full clip melee, it should be a double combine blast, killing even an over-shielded player.
If shots are landed, and the clip is mostly empty, and then melee is landed, remaining needles should add to the ones in the opposing players body, and then combine blast.
To even the power out, the melee could be slowed to equal the gravity hammer, and there should be a slight delay on the combine explosion, leaving opportunity for trades and counter attacks.
It’s a change that wouldn’t much affect the firing of the weapon, which is a staple that shouldn’t be modified by much going forward.
