Simple solution to the Rank Issue. Compramise

So the general problem with ranks in H3 were:

1)People even after `~5 wins wouldn’t go anywhere. Became frustrating
2)Black market of sold account, fake 50s
3)many wins, one loss, boom derank
4)derankers, boosters

Simple fix

1)If anyone has ever made a new account its fun to see the number go up after every win. So simply just make it so that every win you go up 1 rank / every loss you go down 1 rank
Makes ranking simple and predictable, eliminates need for deranking or boosting
2)Every month of no activity, rank goes down by 1 rank, win 1 match and you rank back up Ends selling accounts.
3)You are matched up with other players + or - 5 ranks from your own ( actual number can be adjusted depending on population
Decreases odds of new players from playing skilled players
4)Global rank is an average of all ranks, displayed in similar way to global rank in H3, next to progression rank

I would prefer that my rank not go down even if I lose.

Have the normal rank with a skill rank beside it that shows the persons skill based on accuracy, k/d, teamwork and win/ loose ratio.

With this I could roll with my team and sit back doing jack -Yoink- ingame or going -20 and still rank up regardless of my individual performance.

  1. Too unstable.
  2. I have to keep playing to keep my rank? What’s the point if I have no bragging rights that stay with me?
  3. It already does this. But what if you are playing with your friends in a party, and their ranks are higher/lower than yours by more than 5?
  4. This is -Yoink!-. I don’t want to have to play Team SWAT just to get my overall rank up.

so you know people who can win 3v4 against same skilled opponents all the time?

wish I had a team like that

Also you can currently do that in reach and Halo 3 already

I can think of no less than 5 people in my clan that could do this, with that system we would have a clan full of top ranks inside of a month, and then all we have to do is play one game a month in that playlist to keep it? I’m down.

I honestly think they’re saving the best for last. Why show your hand before the round is over?

But some people make new accounts simply to beat up on people who are lower level. So doing it that way I could just derank myself in about an hour and destroy level 3’s. Then level up again and do it all over again.

You can already do that in reach and halo 3. Even if ranks are hidden in H4 you can still do that

Or have the Halo 3 ranking system (with some refinement) but keep it private so only the player can see it. Still matches you up with similar skilled opponents and will challenge the player themselves to reach the highest rank. Also gets rid of selling accounts or boosting because whats the point when you can’t show anyone or brag about it? You’d just buy the account to get dominated in every game.

I know some people like bragging rights but in all honesty, I just like setting goals for myself to achieve and improve as a player which is something that a no-lose style of ranking system doesn’t allow me to do(Halo Reach/COD).

As for the “competitive players should play the game for fun!” argument; we do have fun. We like the challenge and enjoy learning/improving.

And all that would lead to is you playing against people you would never have a chance to win against.

It’s going to be a while before/if it is. The game is gold with whatever ranking system it has.

What ever Halo 4’s Ranking system is…
It’s done and finished and already shipped
All we can do is hope its great for everyone and keeps people coming back day after day…

As for the idea of ranking up and down per 1 game i personally think that is too fast and not a good ranking system in general. I can get a 50 in Halo 3 Team slayer on a new account (which i did recently on NolansRoadToH4) in ~100 games and i still consider that to be too fast lol.

Personally i would love a more refined version of Halo 3s 1-50, but with anti-derank/boost and a slightly less harsh ‘rank-lock’ since not everyone can reach the highest rank otherwise whats the point? even then people should be proud of whatever rank they attain.

Whatever the system is i really hope its a good one, for all its flaws 1-50 was really good, the Arena system was originally based on K/D and that just didnt work, even the seasons was a bad idea since it meant there was only 2 ranked lists at the time, team slayer and doubles and that was boring, i missed ranked Snipers, MLG and Objective.

Anyways i really hope some effort has been put into a ranking system for Halo 4, to me its a massive incentive to keep playing and i wont stop until i reach the top! haha and also im hoping for something similar to Halo 3’s ranked playlist offerings - Team Slayer, Doubles, Snipers, MLG, Objective, Squad Battle, SWAT and Lone Wolves, i dislike the latter 2 playlists but a lot of people do enjoy them, that way there is a ranked playlist for whatever you prefer and not, like Arena, only have limited choices.
