Silence from 343/microsoft - this may not end well

The lack of public communication and transparency has got me thinking that perhaps there is a major clust**** going on at 343 and/or microsoft (and yes I have seen the embedded quote from 343 buried in one of the forum topics, but I think we can all agree it’s hardly a broadcast message).

Usually in a company when a launch goes this awry, there are consequences. I am starting to wonder if:

  • 343 employees may already been let go
  • typically resources roll off the project near launch and maybe they shifted to Halo 5 and now that is a conundrum for the company
  • perhaps 3rd party resource used have moved on to other projects and aren’t available to fix the game
  • perhaps man of the programmers felt pushed by the timeline and now that this has happened have just quit and taken other work

Whatever is going on, I don’t think the silence is a good sign for getting the game fixed and certainly not in a timeframe we would all like…

They have been posting almost daily updates in the forums for the past few days, In case you missed them, they have been updarting this topic in the MCC support forums. Updates are usually mirrored on twitter and facebook too, so if you follow them you’ll get notified when there is a new post

i think hes more or less talking about actual game fixing updates… noone cares about what playlist they are adding. we just want to know when the game will work, not when we can sit in another empty playlist searching for games…

You are correct, sir. I think everyone would like to play a working game before they add more playlists to something that doesn’t work for what they even have. Man, I was even excited that Halo 4 MP was included and I didn’t even like it much…but at this point I’ll take Halo 2 and 3 working first.

Both Dan Ayoub and Frank O’Connor are strangely quiet on Twitter in last 10 days. Dan isn’t even passing official Halo tweets any more. I like to think that they’re working their -Yoinks!- off on fixing MCC, but honestly I was thinking who will be Microsoft’s scapegoat.

They are probably all very busy fixing stuff. (I hope).

MS’s PR is probably shutting everyone up so they don’t say sorry, it was rushed by us.

if by fixing stuff you mean, spending their first MCC checks we handed to them, and just passing time until they can clock out of work, and go on turkey day vacation… yep they sure are…

I think he’s referring to the fact that those “updates” tell us almost nothing. They’re full of cryptic, vague statements that really do us no good at all. I’d rather them tell me exactly what is going on with networking terms and words that I may not even understand, because that way it feels like they are actually doing *something!*When all we hear is “It’s improving, we’ll continue to update…” it seems as if they have no idea what the actual problem is.

I’d be fine if microsoft said it was rushed (sort of) as long as they apologized and reassured everyone that it is being addressed as a high priority and will be fixed asap. And if asap isn’t known ok, just tell us that. But don’t just go silent.

day 1 -changed 1th to 1st.

This is another logical possibility, they have no idea what is going on or how to fix and can’t say it…

Most of the time in coding, they don’t know what the problem is. It’s a lot of trial and error unfortunately. Take Destiny for example, 5 title updates and they still haven’t found out how to get rid of some of the error codes people are getting. Sure they have reduced the frequency of some, but others pop up in their place. Albeit, not an excuse for a screw up of this magnitude, but food for thought. It isn’t always just the flip of a switch to fix a problem.

That’s what I fear…

Such a disappointment.

Can I get a double burgerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr? Or an update, ya just an update.

This Twitter feed has been the best source for me so far, promised an official update today tho…
https://twitter.com/Brav/with_replies

They’ll post an update at 4:59 PST… and then walk out the door for the night.

I’ve easily spent $800 on Frank O’Connor’s promises, from Halo 4 to MCC. Broken promises, it turned out. I’m not singling him out personally. It’s his own words. Does MS have an endless supply of patience for executives who show up to launch parties with smiles and cool statements for the cameras, while knowing the game is not sufficiently playable?

It’s not good news for us or them either. Something could be happening down over at their studios. To think not a single person could come forth to give a general heads up from the team.

I understand that when you are very busy, sometimes you can’t break away from you work, but they do sleep eventually lol. They aren’t robots, so something can be said. Very strange how everyone went silent after Halo Fest.

Even Phil Spencer is tight mouth all of a sudden about Microsofts Halo.

343 is a very large company. They have people dedicated to PR. Even if that person isn’t involved in the update, they could pass them the word.

The freaking secretary could write up a post about what is going down.

Microsoft receives the profits, 343i are just paid royalties; they make the game so MS can sell it. 343i are the last people rolling in cash right now, since they have all the hard work with a disproportionately low monetary payoff. Often for devs what makes it worth it isn’t the money (because unless you’re self-published the money is -Yoink-) but the art and experience of a game coming fully together.

So yes they are working their -Yoinks!- off, and yes they will probably take a break for Thanksgiving, as they should.
