The only thing saving that terrible weapon for this game is how decent it feels on controller due to reticle stickiness. There is none of that for m&k and the weapon feels terrible. No idea why you feel the need to make it so you need to spam click a single shot weapon like this and use it for competitive ffa. It needs an m&k centric buff, or you need to make ffa BR starts.
i would like to point you to the Halo 2 Pistol. Halo 2 which had a pc multiplayer release.
The h2 pistol was really only used for dual wielding. People didn’t use it as a main weapon, but other weapons were more plentiful in h2 as well.
I dunno what you’re experience is, you’re kinda stingy on the details, but the sidekick works pretty great on my Mouse. No spam needed.
Perhaps I’m looking at it the wrong way. Compared to controller users, it’s not even close to being balanced because they can just spam.
But the sidekick doesn’t work well if you spam, it’s kinda like the DMR. If you try and pop off shots at any range but the closest, you’re not going to see very decent results. Pacing your shots will net you better results.
On top of that, there are far better ways of utilizing it like a finisher for a primary.
Well, people using a regular controller cannot compete with people who have triggerstops and people who can click a mouse (1 mm) to fire a shot.
This weapon fires insanely fast: 365 RPM and is pretty much impossible to reach on a regular controller where a triggerpull is roughly 12 mm.
I do totally agree with you that this weapon needs a rework OR we need BR starts in every gamemode. I do not enjoy the sidekick. It gives me RSI. I would rather have this weapon reworked as a short range H5 magnum: let it fire somewhere between 150 and 250 RPM and make it either a 5-shot or a 6-shot kill instead of a 7-shot kill like it is now. But that is probably never going to happen.
The sidekick is meant to be a secondary weapon. What they originally had in mind for it was so if your primary weapon ran out of ammo you could just switch real quick to your sidearm for a headshot. I think it fills that role nicely, I don’t want Halo 5 all over again where all anyone uses us the pistol.
True but infinite doesn’t have dual wielding so the game is balanced for single gun combat. The Sidekick is basically just a better H2 Pistol.
Also I play on Xbox with a controller. Trust me it doesn’t feel better because of reticle stickiness. The aim assist is very small compared to any past Halo title.
I don’t know man, MK and Controller are pretty neck in neck when it comes to fire rates even with trigger stops.
Here is a comparison between MK and Controller(basic xbox controller was used). nearly identical.

I dunno I see the opposite, if I’m out gunned its usually due to a MnK spamming it faster than physically possible on controller.
This is only my experience though cant speak for everyone but -Yoink!- do some mouse players spam that weapon lol. Its annoying af
I find spamming on controller to be much harder to aim with than mouse and keyboard. I can rapid click while maintaining control, but when trying to pull the trigger in rapid succession it usually causes me to move my hand or thumb around a little which throws off my aim or at least makes it harder to stay on target. Plus that reticle while spamming is bad unless you’re at point blank range.
