Side missions in Halo Infinite?

With the upcoming Halo Infinite going to have open world gameplay, is it possible that we could see side missions appearing in the new Halo video game? Maybe we can see a mission where Master Chief is trying to find any UNSC Marines and ODST Troopers on the Zeta Halo Ring?

Definitely scope for it, but for me it might be too far to go full ‘side-mission’ in the sense of e.g. Witcher 3. What I could see, though would be either such a mechanic integrated into the open world: e.g. you find groups of Marines/Swords holed up fighting off the Banished which you can save - possibly even numbered by unit or linked to intel unlocks. It would provide further reason to explore off the beaten path in the open world. You could even have a dynamic wherein each group might give you a lead on where to find (an)other(s) - similar to Echo-419’s intel when you’re looking for marines in Halo on CE - ‘one by a rockslide, another by a waterfall’ type deal.

Other options could be the New Alexandria style list of possible encounters either between objectives or as e.g. objective triggers - example ‘Link up with local forces to gain intel on local Banished deployment’.

From the small shot of the menu we got in the July Gameplay reveal I think lots of ways to integrate it, but the intel tab and maps would be the main way. Treating it as more like a collectible situation through the intel menu feels right to me alongside e.g. supply/intel caches for Marine/Swords/Banished intel and terminals for Forerunner intel.

Interesting idea. It will be great to see the Swords of Sanghelios appearing in the upcoming Halo Infinite. I am still hoping that Arbiter will appeared in the new Halo video game.

i wouldnt mind taking over outposts on the ring like helping fellow marines take over a area

I would think probably saving marines and finding audio logs to piece together what happened before infinite

I definitely wouldn’t mind side quests. So long as Halo doesn’t turn into an RPG and side missions aren’t just fetch quests, I’m always open for more content. It’d be awesome to see Chief embark on a smaller journey.

Yeah that’s what makes me think they may not be presented as the kind of RPG side-mission, but instead making use of the Intel Tab. For those who want to explore them it’s there, but for those who just want the story’s set pieces it’s easier to pass by than the side-quest style thing and setting different ‘active’ missions in the menu etc.

Yes! There are side missions confirmed by Joe Staten in December’s Inside Infinite. I’ll put a quote of exactly what he said.

> Do I explore off the golden path? Assault that Banished war base guarding the valley pass? Follow a flight of Forerunner Sentinels into that unexpected cavern? Rescue a squad of marines dug-in and desperate halfway up that mountain? Or do I keep pulling the mainline story thread that feels epic and intimate at the exact same time?
