Title pretty much says it all. If stopping a guy from stabbing your buddy in the throat isn’t Protection, then what is?
I’ve always wondered this as well because you can get a protector if they take one piece of damage and you kill the attacker but you don’t get one for saving his life from a fatal blow?
Showstoppers should count toward the Protector commendation, and EMP assists should count toward the Plasma Pistol.
Has anyone wondered why you get Ranger armour for the Protector commendation? I for one find it quite odd, especially since there a) is a Protector armour set, and b) the Ranger is described as a ‘Lone Wolf.’
The Protector medal is akin to the Generic medal. There are many load-out weapons which can be used to kill an enemy, for example, DMR, BR, Magnum, Suppressor, Carbine and so on and, a kill with any earns the Generic kill medal. But, use a power weapon, such as Railgun or Rockets, and there is specific medal for the kill.
The Showstopper medal is a more advanced form of protection. You are killing someone in the act of killing a team mate in a specific manner, that is, via assassination. Not only are your stopping the assassination but you are stopping the show (cinematic) that goes with it; hence, showstopper, like a power weapon kill, this form of protection kill needs its own medal!
The Showstopper should not count towards the Protection commendation but should be treated separately.

Huh? Doesn’t the Show Stopper count toward the ‘Combat Opportunity’ commendation which also uses Reload This and Kill Joy medals?

LOL…I can’t actually remember…finished them all (except Perfection) long time ago. My main point was, it should not count towards Protector commendation.
