showing my support for a return of the 1-50 ranking system!

Dear 343I,

I think it is essential to bring back the traditional ranking system used in Halo 2, and Halo 3 mainly because that is what made halo different to every other game out at the moment, it kept us playing and kept us entertained for hours on end.

My friends list was completely full of people that played Halo3, once reach came out everyone moved on and stopped playing halo, I sent a message to all friends asking them if they would return to Halo 4 if a possible rank system 1-50 was implimented again and 60 of them replied saying yes they would definitely play again.

Add a rank system for everyone who wants to play ranked, add a social playlist section for everyone who doesn’t enjoy ranked, simple really, that keeps both parties happy!

I honestly do not see the argument to why some people disliked the rank system?, if you don’t like it stay away from it, don’t ruin the fun for everyone else.

Thank’s for reading,

I have mixed feelings on the 1-50 ranking system myself…
I liked it, but is it old for a reason?
that is the question

It was the most popular ranking system in franchise history, or across every 360 game which tracked skill.

There is no reason to keep it out of the game. It was wonderful, promoting a team based, winning environment, and just needed a little more policing which was understaffed because who could’ve predicted how the scum of the community would have abused it?

Yeah I totally agree with you on the ranking system. I have no idea why they took it out. Without a ranking system theres really nothing to play for. Do you know if they will put it back into reach or will they put it into halo4?? They need to b/c halo reach just got boring with nothing to strive for.

Yeah except the system was bad for players who just wanted to hop on and play some competitive games. Also, boosting. Also, it encouraged players who hit 50 to quit playing. Also, it didn’t really do anything to encourage more casual players to try it out. Also… yada yada yada. The system had many flaws.

So did the Arena, and some of them more fundamental than 1-50, but 343 doesn’t have to choose between bad and worse, it could create something new.

Also, these flaws you mentioned are either non-existent, or can be done away with with better policing.

Casuals could always hop in ranked and play. How could they not? Getting a 50 did not discourage playing. If this were true, there wouldn’t be more players playing on their 50s than any other of the 50 skill ranks. Every check the skill chart before searching when Halo was in its prime. That was simply ignorance on your part.

I am not against something new, but I’d much rather be safe than sorry. Look what “new” gave us in Reach.

I say 343 makes its own ranking syetem

Exactly people want to show off what skill level they can achieve in a game thats what games have been all about from the beginning, Beat my high score. No one feels satisfaction from only getting Cr no matter what you do every game just for the fact you played it.

You can’t rely on policing for a player base of millions of players. Certain protections need to be built into the system. Yeah, some people will figure out a way to grief, but they should be a small minority and their offenses should be easily actionable.

And please don’t just try to handwave legitimate concerns. It is bad attitudes like that which got us that sloppy Arena system in the first place.

I will show support for this thread as well. I feel a 1-50 system like halo 2s would be optimal simply because almost no one got a level 50. That way as a player you are constantly striving to get the highest level possible.

We really need to have the 1-50 ranking system back.

I want 1-50 back more than anything, i loved it, it was addictive. It allowed multiple playlists because your rank would stay where you last left it, unlike Arena in which you had to play as much as possible to rank up or even defend your rank, why punish people who cant play 24/7?

I worked hard and enjoyed every single game and moment i played on Halo 3 ranked lists, 50 in TS, Snipes and Dubs, 46 in SWAT, MLG and Team Obj, 48 in Team Throwback (i loved this list so much just a shame it was rife with booters) I still played on my 50s due to playlist progression (and still do currently) which gave even more incentive.

What i personally would like is a 1-50 in which it was more or less anti-boost/derank and a lot harder to get rank locked, my cousin first brought this to my attention, a long time ago i played on his TS 45, did To3 TS with 2x 50 friends so we would match up vs another to3 45-50 range, it took 41 win’s (with 3 losses in between) to get the account to 46 (i stopped at that point as i said it was simply a test).

To me 1-50 is more fun, offers more incentive and more playlists as opposed to Arena system which seems to require you play everyday with almost no incentive to rank up since in one day if you didnt play you dropped which in turn would not make multiple playlists viable.

Because I know your argument is indefensible, what have a dismissed with the wave of a hand?

The 1-50 was one of my favourite things about Halo 2-3 matchmaking simply because of the countless hours i’ve spent trying to reach that 50.

I wish my buddies ALL still played Reach, something with the feel of 1 to 50 would help

Sad dont cover it I was so excited for Reach, I am trying to keep a lid on expectations for halo 4, I dont want to be disappointed like that again I liked Reach but a lot of my friends did not. Halos nothing without friends

It wasn’t just the ranking system. Sure, the ranking system was bad, but it was that combined with the bad-ish gameplay combined with the fact that Halo actually started having competition.

I loved Halo 3 ranking. I used to be the biggest noob at Halo when I first played Halo 3 in 2007 and could never manage to even get past Sergeant so always played custom games. But now I’ve gained much more skill and would consider myself above average and so went back to Halo 3 and gained rank so easily. This ranking system should definitely return but modified so that it is not totally based on your team.

The ranked system did have it’s flaws, I read a comment the other day which someone stated that 343 should reset playlists every 5-6 months sort of like the arena seasons, I thought that would be a great idea, the only downfall i see here is when every one starts back at level 1 all the not so good players will get walked over making the game less fun for them.

Anyway good to see some positive replies, I was expecting a few hate comments for some odd reason, keep the feedback coming I’m sure 343 needs these kind of topics to help them out

Aimed at tomok ^^, I was exactly the same, I came into halo 3 with absolutely no online experience, I played halo 1 and halo 2 a lot with friends but never online, my very first account for halo 3 I struggled at the game but still enjoyed it, I played every day trying to get better and trying to reach that extra rank before going to bed, I reached major, then major grade 2 and was delighted, my next goal was commander which i reached, before i new it i was at the highest rank in the game in January 2008.

Halo 3 was the most fun i have ever had on the xbox 360
