343 I beg you to not do this. You have no idea how much damage this will cause in terms of Chief’s image. You can call this a separate timeline all you like but people will still refer to the face in the TV series as Chief’s face. So far this TV series sounds like it has been made for everyone BUT Halo fans.
Why?
Surely you knew your main audience would be those who played the games and followed the expanded lore? So why are you literally going against the games and lore in every imaginable way?
I love this franchise and its lore more than anyone could understand and you are slowly but surely killing it piece by piece. Please stop, take a step back and ask yourself why things are the way they are in Halo instead of trying to reinvent the wheel at any possible moment.
I beg you, do NOT show chiefs face in this TV series, it doesn’t matter whether its on this “alternate timeline” or not. People will still look at it as his canon face.
This TV series was meant to be something truly special, we have waited a long time for this. It started as a film and then got delayed and cancelled and then it turned into a series and yet again git delayed and now you’re just giving us this? There were so many ways that would enable you to make it lore friendly but you really couldn’t be bothered to could you? You could have made a series about the events that take place in first strike. Filling in the gap between Halo CE and 2. Or you could have gone down a completely different route and made a series about KILO 5, introducing the fans of the games into a brand new set of characters and a new spartan: Naomi. But no, instead you abandoned Halo’s history and lore and made a timeline that doesn’t even exist and has no impact on the current lore and state of the universe.
I don’t know who is making all these big decisions at 343 but whoever it is clearly doesn’t have Halo’s fans interests at heart. Any true Halo fan knows that Chief stays masked. He doesn’t need to show his face because his character doesn’t require it. If he wants to show emotion he can do that with body language or by the tone in his voice. We don’t have to see a face in order to sympathise and empathise with him.
