Show me a game that relies on pro gamers' feedback

… and I will show you a game that will never reach critical success as it loses most of its casual gamer fanbase.

I’m looking at you 343 and HALO 5 multiplayer.

Star Craft 2. Pros are the bar to which Actions per Minute are balanced around.

Ugh, no one cares. Go play something else.

Halo 4 was made for casuals. They abandoned the game in a month.

I can’t believe this community. 343 tried to make Halo more casual friendly and “accessible” with Halo 4 yet literally everyone disliked its matchmaking and wanted traditional arena style gameplay. 343 listened and went back to the game’s roots with super competitive matchmaking developed with esports in mind and input from pros now suddenly everyone wants more casual gameplay.

I think they did a great job with the competitive / casual split.
Warzone is extremely casual, it’s like big team with some campaign enemies to kill if you can’t kill the players. On top of this it has a constant reward system to keep your CoD mindset in check!

Yeah, the backpedal by this community is amazing. Still doesn’t excuse 343 from not including social playlists at launch, but the community is really childish.

They asked for feedback TOO LATE if you ask me. The PRO feedback you hear about the game isn’t the most positive. Just watch any stream they don’t talk well about the game. You won’t hear any of them talk about how they like this or that.

The PROs wanted and still talk about: (from the chatter I’ve heard on steams from PROs)
Even starts (got that and I agree with this)

No Sprint, just increased base speed to allow better strafing (biggest fail still, sprint simply does not work in Halo) This changes everything, from the map, to movement around the map and even combat interactions.

Clean line on maps; walks, doorways, etc. to allow for consistent and no pixels to get stuck on or cause physics to not make sense (another fail) Textures everywhere cause the game to play randomly incorrect and inconsistent.

Yeah, social playlists should have been included along with BTB, more arena modes, forge and fileshare. Also, I can’t save clips in theater wtf is up with that?

DotA, Counter Strike, League of Legends, Star Craft

I thought this game was made for casual players? It’s easy to pick-up and easy to compete at all skill levels. I think better players will always dominate, but in no way is this game unfriendly to new/casual players.

Halo pros absolutely hate it when there is a narrow skill gap between them & casual gamers. They want to be able to dominate the casual gamers to the point they will quit. That’s why they hated Halo 4. They were pros but felt mortal because the casual gamers could hang right with them. A definitely a Halo no no. lol.

why cant we have both? halo 3 was both the most competetive and the most casual game i have ever played

This so hard. I love Halo 4. But it was truly made for the Casual fan base, following the road Bungie made with Halo: Reach. And the Casual population ditched it quickly.

But Halo 5. It feels amazing. I actually feel like I’m using skill to achieve those perfect pistol and BR headshots. Everything relying on what weapons I pick up and teamwork. It feels like a real evolution of Halo 2. Another game that took pro feedback for the MLG when it was big

I never played any of those besides SC and if you are fighting for league ranks (like 80% of the game is based around) then its not friendly for casuals since you are set with people in your skill set and move up from there and as a causal player myself I get my -Yoink- handed to me after going up so high. Campaign, arcade and Bronze league on the other hand would be casual/new friendly but that’s not where majority of the community will flock to and the.

Then you aren’t playing the game correct because RANk that is not, it’s ELO. It’s nothing more than a rating system to place you with people of similar skill. That’s exactly what Halo shoudl have but it’s next to impossible to do with a FPS. People need to get away from this RANKED vs SOCIAL. It’s the same thing.

I’m your average player in LOL, low silver / high gold. That’s EXACTLY where I should be and I don’t complain about it because I play people of similar skill. None of this, “i get to high and get your * handed to you” ← That is a FAILED system that is not working correctly.

what this shows is the bell curve of the internets voice. people will complain from both ends while there is the vast majority of people in the center just playing the game and having a good time

I agree with the OP but for different reasons. I feel that Halo 5 is a perfect example that being good at a game != being good at game design. The aiming mechanics of the game are terribly flawed and these pro gamers did a disservice to the community and FPS genera. Its not that they introduced skill-gap into the aiming process, they introduced bad aiming mechanics.

This video shows just how bad the aiming acceleration is. The severity of reticle lurch is unintuitive and destructive to building muscle memory.

This post I made goes into detail about the off-target sensitivity drop that occurs. The assumption that all input should be reduced, when your reticle is near a target, is a terrible assumption to make. The sensitivity drop only promotes sever levels of under aim.

For me, 343 can fix things by increasing the amount of aim assist so that I can be more relevant in a multiplayer match and “hang with the pros”.

Doing so will decrease the skill gap between pro gamers (and those with near unlimited amounts of free time) and casual gamers (who are the LARGEST demographic of gamer).
