Well I refreshed the page earlier and along with Active Discussions showing up which was removed a month ago (and it is still broken), an option for Shoutbox was there, clicking it did nothing but I am curious, is it a planned feature for the future or something?

I don’t know why they would need (or want) such a thing but I guess it would cool if they had one.
I would most likely use it for flirting or giving insults but I guess it could be used for other things.

Thats not the best thing to advertise. We don’t want people to just spam it with insults if it were to be created.
A shout box makes me think of a Yo! thread but on the main page at all times… im curious if having a shout box would cause people to slowly stay away from the Yo! thread…

The problem with a Shoutbox is people would probably use it for inappropriate things, and nobody can edit their posts or anything. It might be nice, but I’m not sure it’s a great idea. (Especially with the Forums the way they are now.)
Considering the amount of people on these forums, I’m gonna have to pass with having this feature. I’m a member of another site, and it’s fairly small (77 members, some of which aren’t even active), and it has a Shoutbox. Even with the small size, I still find myself having to scroll through it just to see what I’ve missed!
I would prefer not having one. Its a good idea but, there will just be too many people talking in it unless they make it private or something.
One way you could make the shout box less crazy was require a certain rank to post in it just so people can’t create new accounts and spam. Maybe start at ODST or Marine?

YAF comes with a shoutbox, noticed it before the gamma forums were implemented. Disabled by admin, site is too large.
Shout box definitely sounds cool, but seems like something that would/could have a lot of spam going on it in, it would for sure have to be monitored.
