If you mean like a BO3 or Destiny double jump then maybe not⌠In fact not even a jetpack version like from Reach. The problem: weight. Spartan armor has been getting more and more complicated, heavy, and expensive since the days of Reach. It makes sence that thrusters donât go up, they just arenât powerful enough.
Double jump was actually in Halo 5 originally. To learn more about its exclusion as well as tons of insight into the development of the Spartan abilities, check out this GDC talk from former 343 game designer Ryan Darcey.
Holy crap I wasnât expecting 343 coming in on this thread. sweet this is like my 4th or 5th time encountering you guys.

hahahahaâŚyour picture made you look like such a fanboy saying thatâŚlike the marines in the beginning of halo 3 when they saw the cheif
Because gameplay issues
theres even an assassination where you use your thrusters. to do what? go up. im a fond user of the jetpack, and not seeing it in halo 5 is dissapointing
Science. lol

> I mean theyâre thrusters, not a jet pack. Iâm sure thereâs a lore explanation behind it, but as far as Iâm concerned theyâre there more for momentum purposes, not flight. If youâre falling, theyâll lessen the impact, or theyâll accelerate momentum in a certain direction.
But with a thruster you should be able to jump a little bit higher still. Like 3 feet more.
This is an example of not adhering completely to lore in favour of gameplay.
343iâs intent is to put as much lore into the game as possible BUT they do not make change for the sake of change or without thought.
343i did try having a double-jump and super-jump mechanic because of thrusters, but they found this harder to design maps for than H4âs jetpacks.
It was too easily used to âbreakâ meticulous created paths one way, and at the same time, too easy to mess up the easy paths due to the âoverscalling-effectâ of much larger jumps the other way.
And then you add in Ground Pound âspamâ due to the jumping, and it really created meta-game that avoided much of Haloâs dance-macabre. Sure, weâre used to bunny-hopping, but this is kangaroo level (or Destiny, your pick, but this was abandoned before Destinyâs release.)

I think that, like a few people are saying, it is the fact that it is a thruster pack.
Technically, the thrusters are directed to make a spartan move left, right, forward and backwards. Due to how, and where the thursters are on your spartan, it would take lots of energy to lift your spartan up.
For a jet pack to properly lift a spartan, it would need lots of force and one powerful thruster.
But from the limited amount of movement the thruster pack gives you, it would be wasted to go up.

For that matter, how about charging your thrusters for a short bit so you can boost yourself upwards - at the expense of a longer cooldown time.
I donât see why it wouldnât work. Like the thrusters are obviously strong enough to let you momentarily hold your place in the air with stabilise and ground pound so it wouldnât be stretch to say they could boost up

Could work, but I donât see it being worth it if not a jet pack.
Thrustsers not jet packs so I wouldnât know.

Huh maybe they can implement a double jump into the game, now it makes some scientific sense
YesâŚweird. But it proves the point of âHaloâs cutscenes were better than the actual gameplay.â
It remainsâŚOne of the great HALO MYSTERIES.

If the trust has the power to push you in 4 directions, I think it can boost up, or even down for that matter. But there are no thruster pointing up on the armor, that would look weird.

Dude i typed like 3 words. You couldâve done the same.

No because the suits are filled with a protective gel layer which absorbs impact and accelerates speed.
Also, -Yoink- physics.
