Personally, while I enjoy playing as the monitor and it’s fun for goofing around in forge, when it comes to actually making your map it seems a top down approach like that in FC2’s map editor allows for faster map building. You don’t have to worry about stupid things like flying into a kill zone while forging, and things like placing respawn points becomes a lot easier. In Reach, placing respawn points takes a good hour or so (for me at least) while in Far Cry 2 it takes me literally 5 minutes at most.
I think we should at least have an option for top down editing in Halo 4’s forge.
It would be a lot more productive if it was like FC2 map editor, but the big part of forge is the social aspect of it. -going into games building maps with your friends- so if you where to just be nothing but…air then it would cut out the social aspect of it, in my opinion.

LOL… For me the “social” side of forge, is me and 2 friends bickering constantly over which way a block should be rotated, before someone deleteing the map and sulking because they didn’t get their way. Then either getting permenent AL and sniping everyone they see, putting killballs over the spawnpoints and killing everyone, or spawning effects until we can’t see what we’re doing…
Yeah, I need better friends.

lol That’s what Bungie wanted, the idea of you joining a friends game and building a map together…
One of the most fun things in Halo 3 was to make a custom Forge team game with each side having their own Monitor to supply and support them. How could your ruin that fun?
Anyway, I actually prefer the Monitor map editing to many other that I’ve used. You can get in depth with your creation and view it from all the angle you need to, switch easily to Spartan mode to see how your creation works from that perspective. I"d rather see it improved with the Monitor intact for that reason. While it’s good to have Forge progress, I think there’s better ways to do it than a complete overhaul.
i liked the idea someone proposed: to have a ghost mode so you could move through objects.
Why can’t we have both? be a monitor and have god like forging powers…I mean I’m if 343 utilizes this forging technique it won’t be like far cry 2

The way the monitor works in Reach you just can’t forge as effectively. You have to be 5 feet away from on object to effect it. You have to go through pages of menues just to get a spawn point and assign it to a team, and you can’t pass through walls.
