Yeah wouldn’t it be cool if a scarab would be added to the next halo game or halo 4. I would want one, but would it blend… this seems like a reasonable thread so tell me if you think they should add a scarab to halo 4 or the next halo game.
I really hope a scarab or some sort of giant enemy appears in halo 4. They were so fun to take out.
Adding a Scarab in multiplayer, customs, or forging sounds like a great idea, on paper. However, if you think about it, it looses its awesomeness. First off, to have a scarab, you’d need massive maps. They’re 10x the size of regular vehicles (they’re not even vehicles), so we’d need a map that allows it to freely navigate.
You also have to realize it moves horribly slow, and the scarab gun fires at a extremely slow rate. It would be fairly simple to take down by the enemy team. Also, people could camp on it like crazy, making it a very frustrating factor of multiplayer.
The scarab also doesn’t have a driver, so how is it controlled? Did I mention that the scarab is a Convenant vehicle?
Like I said, good idea on paper, not in game.
I think that there should be a scarab defense playlist in Halo 4, where elites try to defend a scarab, while spartans try to take it down. Come to think of it, I suppose it could work in invasion too. And to Enfinit, what you said is part of the challenge isn’t it? There’s more than 1 person to a team you know, and not all players on one team have to stay on the scarab, one person could go grab a banshee and cover the scarab from the air, grab a wraith to cover it from below, and maybe 2 or 3 people could stay on the scarab to defend it if its knees get shot out. It would definitely require a lot of people on each team and a lot of teamwork to make the scarab fun, but I think 343 could pull it off.

Now that’s a good way to implement a scarab into gameplay. It can’t be used as a weapon, but a scarab is cooler to defend than a core.

Exactly, Scarabs can be used to make really fun gametypes in multiplayer, it would just have to be a gametype centralized around it. Kind of like how in Sandtrap a flag was put on an Elephant, they could do something like that with a scarab, or make the scarab itself the thing you defend. But I’m guessing for a Scarab gametype it would have to be 1 Flag CTF because it would be kind of crazy to have two scarabs on one map at once.
For a Scarab to be a vehicle, I would think, since Scarabs are pretty much just big hunters, that their AI would still be present, even in a multiplayer setting. Instead of a driver having complete direct control of the Scarab, the driver would more suggest where they want it to move, similar to trying to control a large animal like a horse or ox. The Scarab gun could function in a similar way, the driver (or gunner) would mark a target or an area and the Scarab would try to target the best it could while it charged up it’s gun. I would say too that the Scarab should try to step on enemies that try to hide under it without the need of a driver command.
For this to work it would all come down to the programming in the end.

You just gave me the best idea ever, a covenant version of a target locater. You could use the locater to tell the scarab where to go and what to fire at. But I imagine you would have to sacrifice the ability to use grenades for the use of this locator. (You’d need two triggers, left to move the scarab, right to fire.

Like I posted before, having a scarab would require exponentially large maps to allow it to freely navigate.
If it was in multiplayer, could you imagine how horrible the rush would be to drive one? It’s already bad enough when people fight over the wrath or power weapons.

How about this? One person spawns with the ability to command a Scarab, just one. And they are the only people who can do so. So trying to kill the scarab leader to take command doesn’t work. Which actually seems more realistic to me, every ship has a captain. The only way you can change leaders in the middle of a round is if the current one quit. And leaders are picked at random so chances are everyone will have their fair share of scarab leadership.

I think the Cyclops could work if incorporated right. The Cyclops is essentially a construction exoskeleton, so if there was an objective where your team had to bust down a wall or door I can see it being useful there. Your team would have to protect their Cyclopes until it could bust down the defenses. I would also image that it would be devastating to any vehicle or person that strayed too close to it as well.
I think the War Sphynx will be taking place of the Scarab…

Looks like stepping into the body of a hunter, except you can shoot bullets and rockets. Bet you could make it melee like a hunter too >:).

Read my explanations on the previous page and then you can see how it could be easily and realistically added to the game for max entertainment.

lol u said the same thing in the destructable armor thread…
