During my time in Matchmaking, I noticed that not too many people knew this little trick that was found in Halo 3 and in Reach(maybe. My memory’s a little foggy atm): Holding the Jump button (A button on Default settings) while boosting can improve the Ghost’s turning while it’s boosting. Thought it wasn’t the same as if the Ghost wasn’t boosting, it’s still an improvement.
The Wraith can do the same, but its really just spins around better instead of actually turning. Imagine spinning an Office chair while it moves in one direction…just with a rather large mortar that fires huge globs of plasma.
Though I am guilty of using this, thinking it’s a new feature that the Ghosts now have an “Emergency Brake” similar to a warthog, I’m not sure if this is actually a glitch. So, what do you guys think? Should it stay or should it go?
I vaguely remember that holding A had an effect on boosting in Covenant vehicles in Halo 2, as well. Perhaps that’s always been a hidden facet.
I like the idea. I’m big into system mastery. So I would quite enjoy finding a host of hidden tricks that give me an edge over the competition. E.g., improved turning in Covenant vehicles while boosting by holding the A button.
Wait it makes the ghost slide around?! I thought it was used to stabilize them in mid-air
In Halo CE, pressing ‘A’ would cause the front end to float upwards. Was very useful when going over jumps.
Didn’t notice it in Reach, tbh.
The E-Brake was in every Halo game, even Halo CE. You just hold A and it slows you down. Though in Reach the E-Brake is actually holding the Thumbstick backwards while boosting, instead of pressing A, and it stops you ALOT more sharply than previous Halos.
Ah. So it actually was around longer than I thought. I vaguely remember much from Halo 2, and I thought it was a glitch that persisted since no one talked about it.
And I definetly didn’t know the first Ghost had it too. Back then, I mostly played 2v2 since LAN parties where scarce in my neighborhood back then.
Maybe I was just feeling a bit guilty that I was the only one doing it and people where like, “What the f-!splat”.
It’s the Melee button in Reach, only works while boosting, and barely has an effect. It should return in a more useful form than it did in Reach, but not CE’s “if you’re moving forward, the E-brake can be used indefinitely” style.

Try doing it by boosting and holding the left stick backwards. It almost stops on a dime in Reach.

I know, but in other Halo games this feature was also useful for lifting the ghost over obstacles. That function of it is what I was referring to as being low in Reach.
It’s always existed since Halo 2, doubt it would be removed. Just like you can slide with the hog with left trigger.
Its actually been in since CE.
Halos 1-3 it made your ghost do a wheelie, helpful for splattering in some cases during halo 2 and CE.
