Should the elephant return for Halo 4?

I loved the elephant in Halo 3. It led to so many fun times on Sandtrap to the point I absolutely hated the Sandtarp variant because the elephant wasn’t present. It was a really fun team vehicle with it working like a mobile base, and it was great for forging as nothing put on it moved when it was driving. Sure it was exploited with the bomb/flag being on each meaning you could move your elephant to the enemy team’s, or move it in such a position that it was hard to get the flag/bomb, but that was just part of the fun. I’d love for it to return with more protection in the back (like a toggleable open/close back door to leg hogs or other vehicle on/off and maybe being bigger to cram more stuff and players into it.

I’d like to hear everyone’s opinions on this, even though I know most people saw it as useless :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes.

Hell yeah.

Well, thank goodness I’m getting better responses than I hoped so far.

2 Flag on Sandtrap + Stealing enemy’s base = WIN.

> Hell yeah.

You took the words right out of my mind.

HELL YEAH! xD

Yes, but I’d like to see it integrated into the game further. Kind of silly to have a vehicle that wasn’t seen at all in campaign, could only be played on one multiplayer map, and then could only drive in a figure-eight to boot. Waste of disc memory. The only time we saw Elephant used outside Sandtrap was that one ODST level… and we couldn’t drive it there, either.

To contrast: The Hornet was all over campaign, was a forge object on multiple maps, and could be played on Avalanche.

My main concern is that it might be too late to add it in, or 343 wouldn’t want to add it into Halo 4. I’d hate for it to be exclusive to Halo 3.

oh my gosh yes, i miss it when both teams would ride it and collide right in that center down the little hill. it would be like some weird futuristic pirate fight

You know, it would be cool to see it in a mission where you were trying to get through a heavily defended field, though the only problem I’d see is the fact it moves so slow. A bigger role in multiplayer might be fun though if implemented right.

hell ya!!!

So many fun times on that thing. Back then Bungie was full of win. Moving bases on a desert map= awesomeness

I remember so many petitions to have the elephant make a comeback in Reach really early on, yet none of them really swayed Bungie to do it. I hope 343 is different with Halo 4, putting it in campaign or not.

Indeed.

I want a useful fortress of power not a map-lagging turtle of semi-power.

TBH, the elephant only lagged the map when they drove it up the destroyed phantom. So long as 343 keeps a pointless pile of junk off the map, and playtests it well, lag shouldn’t be a problem. Maybe I should add having an extra turret for defense to the OP…

Yes please. and put it in campaign. elephants all over the place. yes.

First there needs to be a long-range capable BR, unlike the trash BR of Halo 3, but less effective than the DMR in Reach. Any map big enough for Elephants needs to be capable of long-range fighting. After that Elephants could be awesome, but the map needs to be designed in such a way that you can not move the Elephants past the middle of the map. Then you could even have a more interesting strategy than the “drive elephant to base, score flag three times.” You could move your own Elephant up to make scoring easier for you, while at the same time putting yourself at a bigger risk.

I’d hate to limit elephants any more than they already are. Give them free access to the entire map should they be able to fit, not block them off at the middle. And even then with your strategy of moving your elephant up to make scoring easier, that’s how it usually happened in Halo 3 anyways, so I don’t see the difference.

Being able to park your enemy’s flag right next to your base is obviously flawed. If you could only bring the Elephant to the middle of the map (keep in mind the map wouldn’t be as useless as Sandtrap and would have more options for Elephant driving) then you have to make the choice whether or not to bring your Elephant up.
