Should the Commando Rifle replace the AR as the default spawn loadout?

They could probably replace the AR or Pistol in BTB for spawn weapons perhaps.

If I’d spawn with Commando and sidekick, I will use the sidekick for everything till I find an AR/BR to swap out the Commando.

The only thing spawning with the Commando does, is annoy players with a useless weapon.

Maybe buff Commando and remove BR in a special playlist to see how it goes.

“Useless weapon”

Another reason why players call it a useless weapon is because it isn’t a pickup that they want to work with, so barely anyone has experience with the CR. It is actually a descent weapon to use, but like I said, it is outperformed by the AR and BR so most people just don’t bother with the gun.

While suffering when it comes to accuracy and recoil, the commando is supposed to be a pretty powerful rifle.

Make it worth picking up by having it perform the way it’s supposed to. It should not be failing this badly. What people don’t understand is the commando has 4 factors playing against it:

  1. Aim Assist
  2. Recoil
  3. Bloom
  4. Reticle size

It’s not only suffering from out of control bloom and recoil, but from low aim assist and a tiny reticle size. Your shots have to be extremely accurate, which wouldn’t be a problem had it not be nerfed so hard.

Forcing this terrible weapon into the player’s hands at the start of matches would make games extremely stressful and unfun. This may look appealing for some, but trust me when I tell you it would get old real fast.

It would still be a waste of space, the only difference would be that it would be a waste of space right from the beginning of the game. Also, you say the Ravager and Commando are the only guns classified as bad, but have you ever used this games Plasma Pistol?

I can still use the Plasma Pistol to zap away at shields and swap to the Sidekick to get the headshot kill.

Meanwhile the Ravager when fully charged up doesn’t even guarantee a kill. The AOE splash area does too little damage that when you direct hit another Spartan with it, they break their shields and the AOE liquid doesn’t even kill them outright. And you can easily avoid the Area-Denial goo by just sprinting and jumping. Firebomb Grenades did a much better area-denial than the Ravager.

Seriously, no ! The CR is horrible, having it at spawn would be a disaster !

They’re probably going to rebalance the weapons eventually. Don’t get me wrong, I like that I can do damage with an assault rifle and that everybody isn’t using pistols. But power weapons should offer something tangible over your start gear.

Fair point, as bad as the Plasma Pistol is the Ravager is a lot worse.

The commando is god awful as discussed in that previous post so why would you think anyone would want to start with it? I agree it is in the wrong place sharing a pad with the BR but this isn’t how you solve the issue.

If you have some weird obsession for the commando be my guest but don’t drag everyone else down with you.

Im just making a sugguestion that if the weapon isn’t reworked sometime soon, I would rather have it swapped in sandbox somewhat rather than have it remain an essentially useless swap.

Of all the navel-gazing I’ve seen on this site, this post takes the cake.

Don’t reinvent the wheel. AR/Pistol is perfect and has been a staple in Halo

I think there should just be a seperate commando starts playlist. The commando is difficult but fun to use. Players shouldn’t be forced to use the commando instead of the ar, but players who want to use the commando more should be able to play a commando starts playlist.

It’s outperformed by even the Sidekick mind you, so it really is at the rock bottom in terms of usability. A weapon’s effectiveness isn’t measured in a vacuum, but against the sandbox.

It really isn’t wrong to say the Commando is useless because it is indeed pretty useless compared to most of the Sandbox, and especially since 2 of the weapons it loses to are Starter loadout weapons. The solution here isn’t to remove these Starter loadout weapons, the solution here is to hard buff the Commando.

There is literally no excuse for the Commando to not get buffed since it’s already being plagued by a myriad of other issues not related to damage like recoil, aggressive bloom, horrible Ammo Economy. I think the perfect first step to buffing the Commando is to simply make it a functional copy of the Covenant Carbine, since it almost perfectly emulates that weapon, except with the added bloom and recoil.

They should try reducing the recoil and removing bloom for the next Flight and test it as a “UNSC Covenant Carbine” style weapon and see if it performs a little better.

In terms of close-quarters domination due to fire-rate and TTK? Yes.

But at range the Commando Rifle offers more accurate combat, considering how I have seen my Commando Tactical Slayer and Sidekick Tactical Slayer Matches tend to be shorter since everyone can head-shot with the commando at a good distance while the Sidekick is way to RNG with the bloom system, but the Sidekick works well in close quarters by just trigger spams.

Several points you aren’t mentioning with this:

  1. Commando’s Bloom and Recoil are felt the most when used at its intended range, so it’s really not that much better than the SK at full range vs the BR or even the AR (seriously why is the AR spitting so far)

  2. Tact slayer removes the Commando’s core weakness of Shields. Commando’s entire weakness is the Shields which takes 6 shots to crack. Once that’s gone, Commando is a headshot machine with really high fire rate at a long distance. I’ve made this point known across many Commando threads already.

It seriously needs to be buffed instead of simply replacing Starter loadouts, and I’m standing by my suggestion vs yours.

The commando is almost unusable on PC because we have zero magnetism and aim assist. This idea would make the remaining few m&k players to leave.

Look idea halo starting weapons is that they are trash so if swap any weapon for ar tells you that weapon up or ar over powered.

So ar in halo 3 can get two kills if no miss

So I think having weapon can kill 4 people without reloading is bad starting weapon.

So op is right starting with commando would be good option. Till they can get around balance.

If you hate commando then agreeing with op that worst weapons are starting weapons.

I agree with this. I don’t know if I’d want to start with it every match, but I wouldn’t mind trying out games starting with it either.
