I’m honestly hoping that 343i brings back the warthog’s classic tri-barrel mounted turret, neck-mounted ammunition supply box, and octagonal body shield into Halo Infinite. With the warthog today, the turret just feels big and bulky. It has five barrels instead of three and now has a square body shield instead of an octagonal one like in the past. It doesn’t even have an ammo box on the turret’s neck anymore, it’s just a belt of bullets coming out from one end of the gun into another. Where the hell are all of those bullets coming from, and where are all of them even being stored?!?! And it’s not just in sensible logic, but gameplay wise as well. With the warthog in the past, the octagonal shield covered a player’s entire front body with the exception of the elbow tips, visor area/above of helmet, and the barely visible edges of the knees as the entire player’s body is covered and protected by the octagonal shield and ammo box. With the present warthog, the square shield is tiny and there is no ammo box mounted on the turret’s neck. The spartan is practically exposed completely on the gun except for his waist and torso. In the past when you were on the warthog’s gun, you were pretty much fully protected and could be on the turret for entire rounds if the vehicle wasn’t getting blasted by explosives and 50 cal. bullets. Players would always have the most difficult time even hitting the player with precision weapons as their bullets would be blocked by the octagonal shield. All while with the present warthog, if you’re on the turret, you’re a goner as your spartan is so exposed without any cover that players commonly and are easily able to headshot you off of the turret. It seems as if players are only on the turret for two minutes before getting killed off the back in no time. Not to forget about the present gunfire now. It’s just too out of place for me. Also, the old warthog’s shield was damageable and destructible which was a nice touch. What about all of you? What do you guys think about this? Do you think that the classic warthog design should return to Halo: Infinite?
100% think both Warthogs should be in Infinite. Idk what it was but the Reach Warthog was amazing and so smooth to drive.
Personally like the newer warthog and it’s gas cans bro. Although the old one does hold a special place in my heart along with the spectre.
With the old Warthog, you were better shielded, but the turret wasn’t very accurate. With the new Warthog, you are more exposed, but the turret is far more accurate. My point being, so long as there’s a trade off and the game play is balanced, I’m good with either one. Though I lean toward the new Warthog simply because I like the look of it.
Sorry for my bad english, in my opinion the warthog represent the pinnacle of 343 unnecessary redesign and their tendency to throw away unique things from the game. Now what make the orginal hog cool is the not linked wheelbase , no shaft needed , no dampers or mechanical part exposed to enemy fire , a more futuristic look , I think everyone was fine with the old warthog. Then 343 arrived and they decide to change it for no reason , to use a more traditional chassis geometry in a game placed 500 years in the future can’t understand why! And in this process they messed up , now I’m not an engineer but the halo 4 / 5 hog has some flaws : the way they integrate the steering shaft is absurd , under the two fangs in the most exposed point without any cover , not really safe for a military vehicle , a little pew pew of a grunt and bye bye steer . Overall the entire chassis geometry is a mess because if you base it on a double wishbone type suspension like 343 hog does and then you keep the original hog arm-link… it make no sense for practical use , this will lock the suspension travel and make the vehicle a brck.

Reach warthog will always be my favorite. The thing was unstoppable with its handling and firepower

I agree, still somehow balanced
Reach’s Warthog was the most refined as far as power and handling IMO
