should the ability to dual weld be brought back to halo?
I mean it would be cool to see but it’s not on the top of what’s most important list for Halo Infinite (to me it’s not that important, I can’t speak for 343 or the Halo community).
God no, it ruined a good portion of the sandbox and it has little benefit out outside of the rule of cool. All it does is create balance headaches that tend to leave us with uninteresting and/or redundant weapons in the sandbox.
Maybe there is some perfect way to implement dual wield in Halo, but I am not willing to suffer through sub par iterations for a mere chance at finding a way to do it that adds meaningful depth to the sandbox.
Please no.
It was cool to do… but made it very difficult to balance the weapons on the map.
I mean, I do miss it. I play primarily for fun and dual wielding was a blast. With all these kinds of mechanics you get problems, so they inherently divide the community. On a personal level, I’m not hugely fond of the competitive angle shaping everything, but there are many who disagree.
I would like to see it back but only in non-competitive modes given there could be balancing issues with smaller weapons in competitive modes for one.
But in such places as campaign the balancing shouldnt be that much of an issue.
Though it would be neat, if it doesnt fix in the balance of other weapons, if it doesnt have a place in the current Halo sandbox, why complicate things, keep it out.
Personally I think dual wielding should return. It added a whole new layer to the game and allowed players to figure out what combos worked and combos that didn’t. In order to balance dual wield I think the right approach is not to decrease the effectiveness of weapons but to decrease the effectiveness of dual wielding itself. An example is make the recoil and spread of dual wielded weapons drastically increased and make melee time slower to an extent. If done right 2 players (one with and one without dual wielding) could be perfectly balanced.
If the feature balances weapons according to their utility, rather than time-to-kill, then sure.
Yeah i think it would be cool to see it return. It might not have been very practical but Dual Wielding was always really fun. It could just be left out of ranked playlists if people have a problem with it balance wise, but frankly I never noticed any balance issues with it.
Yeah dual wielding magnums or needlers were a combination to be reckoned with but I loved using the same combo myself so it would be kinda cool to see some small dual wields come back.
It depends. I always liked the idea of dual wielding in Halo, but neither in Halo 2, nor in Halo 3 it was implemented well. And to be honest, in the last years I was more on the pessimistic side. But recently I’ve found a video on youtube, Favyn explains it wery well how to balance this mechanic in future Halo Games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXBvMIM5cc8&t
And I have to say: He’s completly right. 343 as the game devolper has endless choises in regards to the weapons. I really recommend watching this video.
We shouldn’t just judge the TTK / the damage of the weapons. Instead of adding more weapons for the sake of adding, balance the weapons you already have.
The plasma pistol would be the perfect example. Everyone would prefer a regular magnum, to a plasma pistol, to take someone down. But the plasma pistol has various functions. You can emp all vehicles, you can take the shields of your opponents down and switch your weapon to finish him off. Unlike other games, you can experiment with so many, different things in Halo.
In my personal opinion, the plasma rifle has become useless after CE. If I remember it correctly, Favyn even mentions this in his video. Why has the plasma rifle lost it’s most important function? (The enemy would slow down, when you hit him) The plasma rifle would become extremly useful again, when you add this special function back. With one weapon, you slow your enemy down, with the other one you would try to take him down.
I mean that’s just one weapon I’m talking about. I really think that there’s lot of potenial there.
At least bring it back for campaign. If it can’t be balanced for competitive matches then just disable it in those game modes.
I actually think dual wielding should be back but not like before. Instead of being able to mix and match guns, I would experiment with weapon pairs that you pick up at once. So for example, you pick up two smg at once. If you want a new weapon then both guns have to be dropped.
I don’t know, I just think dual wielding should try and get back in some form as for every person that hated it, there was at least one person that loved it.
Dual-wielding could return, but not without some implementations:
- Only suitable for very close range (though better than the Shotgun, Sword, and Hammer) - Hindered zoom / Smart-Scope functionality (or none at all) - Reloads and clambering are slowed

As ridiculous as this sounds, how interesting would it be to dual-wield a pair of Rocket Launchers or Spartan Lasers at once? Your handling and field of view would be hindered a ton, but the idea of being an anti-vehicle monster doesn’t sound too crazy to me.
Nah. There is a “cool” factor, and it can be fun to try all the dual-wielding combinations, feels like it adds variety. But there is the potential that 343 could balance the weapons in such a way that all of them feel puny respectively, when not being dual-wielded. As much as I enjoyed dual-wielding in Halo 2 and 3, I just don’t think it’s worth the complications it adds to weapon tuning.
YES ! plz bring back dual wielding , especially for campaign. If it’s unbalanced for multiplayer…I understand if they take it out. But not for campaign…it will make it more fun , more variety in combat.
I’d like to see it back for campaign, not really for multiplayer.
It was fun, but no.
Like many other’s have said, it makes balancing weapons very difficult, especially for the fact that you have to think of all the what ifs, and balance for them even though players may not even use those what if combos. Therefore balancing weapons in a way people may not understand, leading to bad vibes.
