Should Shields be Stronger?

I am personally loving the beta, in my opinion it still feels like Halo, but with fresh mechanics that put an emphasis on mobility and teamwork. Everything so far feels very well balanced, but I think that automatic weapons take down shields too quickly. While the thruster pack and sprint gives you more opportunities to avoid gunfire and gives you a feeling of power in the mobility area, but the survivability of players is much lower than the other games and makes you feel less “protected” by your shields and armor.

I don’t think a slight change in shield strength will upset the pace of the game too much, as you will still be fast, but I like the idea of a Spartan being fast AND tough. So I suggest either buff the shields slightly against all weapons or reduce the damage of weapons against shields on an individual basis. A TTK increase of around 0.75 to 1.5 seconds sounds about right to me.

Yeah, I think shields should be boosted a bit.

It would be appreciated. The killtimes feel a little too short.

Its like LEGENDARY Difficulty if it was Multiplayer.

Say, this gives Me an Idea. [Hardcore Mode] no don’t call it that, Call it Legendary, and have a playlist dedicated to this.

Thanks for the support! I’m seeing a good bit of threads about kill times and shields being buffed, so it’s nice to know that I’m not the only thing that thinks a little tweak would benefit the game.

And, and, a playlist called [Old-School] so the veterans can have a good time with the new mechanics while having some mechanics removed, so basically

  • Legendary
  • No Sprint
  • Increased base movement speed
  • No Ground Pound?
  • Increased TTK
  • No Thruster Pack?

Indeed. In line with other Halo games, the time it takes to kill or get killed feels far too fast. I think this is in part because you can scope with automatics now (not sure how I feel about this yet), but part of it is that besides the DMR and Sniper, everything kills too fast. I think the BR’s fire rate might be a tad on the fast end for a 4SK requirement, but if you either slowed its fire rate or made it 5SK it’d be fine and still kill plenty fast.

Automatics definitely feel a bit OP, especially the SMG, but overall it feels pretty good. Time to kill definitely needs to be increased on everything but the DMR and Sniper, though. (and this comes from a primarily AR user)

So i have heard people saying automatics have bonus headshot damage, and if it is true, it is way to game breaking and OP.

If if you ask me how to successfully make the kill times longer:

-Remove the supposed headshot bonus from automatics
-Increase the Spartans’ health (lower bar from shields I assume?) by 10%
-Lower fire rate of precision weapons slightly

Precision weapons, BR for example, will still take 4 shots to perfect kill, but kill slower due to slightly reduced fire rate. Plus, emphasis on getting head shots will be higher because of the increased health. Anyone like this idea, give your opinions!

If they get rid of AR I’ll buy Halo 5 other wise forget it

I feel like the shields are the equivalent to covering a naked cat -Yoink!- with paper and calling a spartan 6.
but seriously. Up the TTK and you have a long, LONG lasting Halo.

The AR is my personal favorite weapon throughout all the Halo games, although I think the damage in it’s current state is overpowered (I think the range is fine as it is easily countered by descoping them with a precision weapon). If they balance it a little bit I don’t see why it can’t be in Halo 5. What fuels your hatred my friend?

You can’t be serious. The AR is iconic to Halo. Also, not buying the game because of it? Come on.

Might have something to do with bringing health back, maybe weaken health and make sheilds stronger?

It’s nice for the AR to finally be worth something after 5 halo games and the new mechanics are such a breath of fresh air for a series that could have gone either way. This game still feels like halo to me but yeah the shields seem weak and the grenades are definitely OP
