Forgive me if this has been asked before, but having been playing halo for quite awhile (with the exception of Halo 4) I feel that recon in this game, is nothing short of a INSULT to what recon was, if you’ve been here a while you’d know how (somewhat) hard recon was the first time in halo 3 (before the 24/7 7th playlist) And even though reach changed it up a bit, if you didn’t pre-order, you didn’t get recon PERIOD! Now as we all know, You can get recon in H4, by shelling a couple hours of game time in. I was sad but okay with the fact that my lovely Blue flames (R.I.P blue flames) didnt come over, but the fact that my oh so lovely recon was a dime a dozen was too much! If i wasnt so much of a halo fan, this would have turned me off the game ( also the single player quick time evens and the sprinting, i mean whats next? ADS and kill streaks? oooh yeah ORDNANCE ._.) While i love that 343 tryed something new, and pulled it off really well! But Recon was something i felt should have remained untouched. or even made HARDER to get. but then again its just my opinion. and i look forward to seeing yours.
I was awarded Recon in Halo 3 by Bungie for meeting one of their metrics in a special weekend playlist.
It was really rare at the time and people used to take loads of screenshots of it in game and I’d get friend requests from randoms over live.
343 should definitely have some exclusive armor that they give out/reward community members with in future Halo titles.
(Although we would get loads of ‘Can I haz Recon?’ threads in the forums unfortunately).
You’re a couple of years and a Halo entry late to this party OP. The Recon helmet with armored attachment was a pre-order incentive for Halo Reach, and when you reached LTC or Colonel in Reach you could purchase the classic recon helmet.
When Bungie stopped tying Recon to vidmaster achievements after Halo 3 Recon stopped ceased to have the aura of exclusivity. Also let’s not forget that 343i is trying to continue the Halo tradition witout directly copying Bungie so bringing back Recon as a super rare armor achievement would only invite criticisms from an already skeptical Halo fan base.
FOTUS armor is to Halo 4 what Recon was to Halo 3 in terms of exclusivity and rarity since all other helmets can be attained through commendations/grinding.
The only way to get FOTUS armor is to buy it with actual money.

No, Recon is fine as it is now. It was all special and cool in Halo 3, but that was over five years ago! I don’t know about you guys, but I sure remember all the problems and annoying threads that came alongside Recon. Having it as a regular armour that you get unlock by leveling up suits me just fine, since those who like the armour can use it, and those who don’t, won’t,
Or 343 could have their own unique in game Armour. New developer, New Armour.
Well…it’s not entirely true that you couldn’t get recon without pre-ordering with reach. Maybe for the orange wire sticking out of the side if his head, but normal recon was quite obtainable. So it really ended with reach, the unique aspect of recon if you could say.
I believe you got the helmet at Lt. Colonel.
Fairly early on, so I’m not too bothered by how early you get recon.
I would like to see exclusive armors come over just for those who earned them the original way in their game of origin. For example, I earned the Katana in H3 by earning all (49 I think?) achievement of the released game. Hard to do. After the DLC released everyone had it, because you just needed 49 achievements earned, not just the original 49, so people who couldn’t get the lone wolves overkill all of the sudden had it. Exclusivity is what makes these armors awesome in the first place.
The prestige value for Recon is long gone and doesn’t need to be brought back.
I’m glad it was easy to get because it’s one of the few helmets that don’t look like a Power Ranger hand-me-down.
You can get Recon armour in Reach without pre-ordering. You can buy it at the Colonel rank for 100,000 credits.
Recon was only “cool” in Halo 3 because it was hard to get. Nobody cares about it anymore. Besides, it looks awful.
i only liked the batman shoulders didnt care about the helm.
If the recon looked as good as it did in H3, then make it impossible to get like it was in H3. But because the shoulders and body look like crap, it has no legs, and because the helmet has that stupid long chin, then screw it.
I love how people are totally overlooking the Recon SURG which is incredibly difficult to obtain.
343 has done what 343 does best, appealing to many types of players. Low level players can wear Recon with pride and dedicated players can show off a more interesting skinned variant.

SAME!!! i got it realy early and i use to get people just following me around and like looking at me when im crouching behind a wall

Aww man i’m jealous! I never even got the Vidmaster achievements done, partly because of lag and partly due to a lack of players. Scotland sure can suck sometimes…
