343i intend on making everything connected into the Halo universe since Halo 4. While this does mean our Spartan is now relevant, it makes 343i become more careful with how they implement no content (Which makes me wonder if they consider Fracture events lore friendly).
The facts I realize about this is our Spartan IVs from Halo 4 and 5 are most likely dead now from the Infinity attack. And the Spartans we play in Infinite are our new players. What I really dislike though, is that I no way they will implement our Spartans one day fighting the Banished without it being a simulation. They probably want to find an explanation why our spartan will respawn after dying…
Do you encourage this? It brings our Spartans into real canon but I see it completely stricken our contents if it doesn’t have some sort of explanation
They’re already said that Fractures stuff is alternate timeline stuff, so its canonicity is very loose at best.
I’d rather MP stay canon so the Spartans still look like Spartans, but I guess since F2P has opened Pandora’s Box with microtransactions and Fractures, that ship was started to sail away, especially since this game is supposed to last for years with new store items and Fracture content over time.
When it came to fracture, god I wish they thought it out better.
Like if your going to play in the tenrai event, you HAVE to use the YOKOI armor, but should have introduced the Hayabusa armor too. Instead of the energy sword, energy katana, and make that a permanent secondary weapon.
But just for tenrai.
But more importantly they shoulda made 2-3 small maps from that universe that you could only play via tenrai.
It would give the community something different and the use to the little content we have to use.
Most people don’t care if it is canon or not. Personally, I like the Halo 4 approach. They are just average training simulations. No need to look deeper because it doesn’t matter otherwise. Now it seems like they are trying to push a story into MP. Except it doesn’t matter because nothing in the story will affect the game and the game can’t affect the multiplayer. So… what’s the point? Who is it for? Spartan Ops made sense, but this isn’t Spartan Ops.
I don’t know why 343 just doesn’t want their game to be a game. Doesn’t have to be some over-written emotional rollercoaster (I say as a writer). Its a game. Let us just play it. We don’t need context.
I don’t think it really matters all that much. In the original Halos a lot of the maps and aspects of MP don’t make sense canonically. Making MP canon can be neat, but it’s not a necessity.
Multiplayer should have never became lore. Multiplayer should have remained its own thing. Lore should have stayed campaign only. Trying to tie lore into multiplayer is one of 343s biggest mistakes. I remember during the build up for H4 some one at 343 said In Halo 4 I think we finally answered why a red Spartan would be fighting a blue Spartan… And I was like who asked that? Multiplayer is supposed to be there just for fun, not to tell the story of the game. The story should be told in campaign only. Look at how great firefight was compared to Spartan ops… If they weren’t working on story and cut scenes perhaps they would have added in all the stuff that made firefight so great with all the customisation you could do with firefight.
