People have always been complaining that there should be a custom games browser and that matchmaking does not have enough content. Well, why doesn’t someone combine these two ideas for the ideal experience where we all get what we want. A server browser similar to Battlefield 3 and most PC games.
This would allow people who never get to play customs to join whatever gametypes they wish at any time. Custom communities and YouTube filmers would flourish as people would rush to join anyone holding a game day and attempt to create their own servers with different game types. Custom games would be alive and would be built constantly to bring others to their servers.
To make it so certain gametypes like Flood or Big Team don’t take complete control there would of course be 343 hosted servers that would have a variety of 4v4 gametypes and the traditional playlists could easily be translated. There could be multiple servers for Multi-Team or Grifball and the 343 Matchmaking team could continue work to make the “official servers” interesting and provide for competitive people with ranking systems that only work in those servers.
I had always assumed a natural evolution of custom games would be having a custom matchmaking options, where people can host custom matchmaking games in a separate matchmaking system.
Though I would hate to see Halo turn it’s matchmaking into what Bf3 is. I loke BF3, but the matchmaking side has or seems to have absolutely no truskill filter.
I’m basically new to it and I can be thrown in games who are top maxed rank, and I’m a lvl 14.

BF3 has no truskill matchmaking, but such a system can still be incorporated into server browsers.
I could see it happening if you didn’t earn any sort of ex credits ect… And when you go to play it you would choose gametype and map and then a list of hosted games would appear and you could join one, or you could search for games with a preferences like the matchmaking ones in reach
Also I think it should be run on host connection so there can be more servers for matchmaking
I would definitely love to see a custom game browser like in Halo PC alongside a more traditional matchmaking system in future Halo games. Both systems have their ups and downs, it would really be silly to not take advantage of both.
Matchmaking is a Halo trademark. Halo 2 literally invented the party matchmaking system.
Custom Game Browsing is a definite must have, but the thrill of being matched up against random opponents, and the emphasis on keeping you and your friends together on the same team is one of the things that makes Halo’s online so great.
Most games with server browsing, you and your friends are never on the same team. Especially if you have the appropriate number of players to fill out an entire team in that gametype. As you are generally joining games in progress.
> No, it should have matchmaking like now, then for custom games people could choose to make their lobbies open for people to join.
Why? It’s a natural evolution of matchmaking to have the whole system made to have freedom of choice. Plus true skill could be implemented in the official servers that would replace official playlists that we have now.

A server system could still have a random join option similar to Battlefield 3. A requirement that they could fit in is that it would only join servers that your party can support. It could be built into the system.
As much as I’d like that, there is a huge risk of falling into a pit full of trolls with user-based servers.
Imagine you are testing community-made maps, but when you join a server for one… You find yourself surrounded by statues of “male anatomy” crudely built out of Forge objects…
