What are your thoughts guys?
Absolutely, positively, big fat no.
IF, and that’s a big IF, they decide to kill Chief or have him retire, I wouldn’t be closed to the idea. Only concern I have is that many Halo players are unfamiliar with Jerome, so they might want to build him up as a character before that. If they still keep Chief, then that’s fine, but if they start to focus on Jerome more, I won’t care.

for some character building they could join up the remaining spartan IIs in a super team or something cool like that

Or some comics or books. They did that really well concerning Chief and other Spartan-IIs, so there’s no reason why that shouldn’t work with Jerome and Red Team.
There’s a few Spartans who I feel would make great future protagonists if the Chief’s story came to a close. Fred, Jerome or Jai from Grey team would be potential candidates.
Fred is probably the most developed, featuring in a few novels and he’s the only one in a main Halo game. Him and the rest of Blue team would probably be the most affected emotionally by John’s death and itbwould be interesting to see their reactions.
Jerome is another obvious choice. He’s still in his prime and has decades of service before he retires. It would also return to the classic Spartan and AI combo from the original trilogy. His team is known to everyone who’s played the games, not just those who’ve read the novels, so there’d be no wondering where they’ve come from.
Jai would work if they decided to take the series in a different direction, away from large scale battles towards espionage and sabotage behind enemy lines. However, him and Grey team would need to be introduced to the casual players before making him a main character. Also, very minor Envoy spoilers ahead,
At the end of Envoy, Grey team are assigned to a multi species team, so playable elites would probably make a return. So they’d be my picks for filling the Chief’s boots. I don’t really know which of those three I’d like to see the most though.

very well stated. Let’s hope they let Chief retire or promote him to a position that puts him in charge
