Should infinite have unique hud’s for unique helmets?
Interesting idea but no for me. Seems like a lot of extra work for the devs to do for a purely cosmetic thing.
For an in-universe reason why not: the military wouldn’t create special HUDs for each armor/helmet. Like everything else in the military, the HUDs would be uniform. It honestly annoyed the crap out of me that Locke and Chief had different HUDs for that exact reason.
I wouldn’t mind unique HUDs in Infinite. It would’ve been cool if you were able to switch HUDs in Halo 5 in Multiplayer with Team Osiris or Blue Teams HUDs.
I suggested a while ago that maybe it would be cool to unlock a few different types of HUD operating systems as a cosmetic customization. I think it would get too messy if each helmet had a unique HUD, but I could see 4-5 different options being ok.
I think it would be better if 343i just let us customize the HUD, regardless of what kind of helmet our spartan is wearing. Changing the color, adding/removing different widget to the HUD (purely cosmetic thing, think difference between Elite and Spartan zoom in H3), or changing the shield display to retro styles from CE/2. I doubt this would be easy to implement, but simply changing the HUD colors would go a long way for color blind folks.
Maybe not for all helmets, but they could be rare unlocks. I guess it depends if we have 200 helmets or not.

Don’t know if you’ve heard of it, but a game in closed beta called “Diabotical” lets you place HUD elements on different parts of your screen like moving shortcuts on your desktop. Not sure about font/style or colors, but I think it could be done tastefully.
I’d love it and I hope it does come to the game. As to saying it’s “too hard” or “takes too much time from devs”… no, no it doesn’t. It’s a literal .png file that would be put over the screen to give the effect. For example, it’s what I do in Fallout 4 to give myself the HUD and display from the Halo games.
Edit: I like UnheardCARNAGE’s idea. Let’s say you mix the two, you get the custom design from the helmet and you can configure the actual HUD itself to suit your preference.
I’d prefer the option to customize it. doesn’t even need to be all out there, just changing the color and size of stuff would be cool. maybe some presets to choose from.

they still would have to design each hud for god knows how many helmets, and seeing as how each asset changes in real time (radar, shields, amo counter etc.) I’d assume It takes more than a png file. and even if just inserting a png file is what they do, they’d have to have one for each possible screen that shows up meaning each bullet count and grenade count, and while that wouldn’t be hard, it’d be extremely time consuming and they’d have to pay the designs for each hour they put into that, which at that point they’d probably consider using something more efficient than importing a png because it’d be quicker and cheaper to produce in the long run.

This is the real question, along with is it actually 200 helmets or 20 helmets with 10 different variantions that consist of different stripes.

Okay, but you’re missing the point of my edit to the post. The helmets would have the “custom design” from the helmet, or from a list to choose from, and you’d also have a widget editor that would allow you to move and change parts of your HUD. So there would be absolutely no reason they’d have to put in extra work when they’d have a tool for it and players can change it themselves if they want to. Of not, it would be in the default position.
