Should Infinite Have Halo Veteran-Status Unlocks?

I’m curious what the community thinks about unlocks in Halo Infinite for players who have logged a certain amount of hours/XP/rank in previous Halo games.

Based on our service records on Waypoint that span back numerous games, do you think that Infinite should include some kind of system where you can get an armor set, or something more simple like a multiplayer nameplate based on your service record from previous games?

Personally, I think that there should be at least something to designate the achievement of certain XP tiers from MCC, or a badge of some kind for how far back your record goes (Halo 2, Halo 3, 360-era). Thoughts?

It can be tough to balance the rewards for this. On one hand, you want to give proper recognition to such players. On the other hand, you cannot make the reward more awesome than some of the rarest items specifically made for Infinite.

I think 343i came up with a good solution for this where they are giving out some small but unique rewards like armor coatings to those who reach 152 in H5.

Perhaps they can also have a Legacy section under each player’s service record that gives a short and sweet summary of their time with the previous games. One way to do this could be to simply have a “Halo gamerscore” section, very similar to the one listed here on Waypoint.

Only if the challenges are available for new players to go back and unlock. Example: Grant people a MCC 700/700 coating, but keep the challenge open throughout Infinite’s life cycle. Do not prevent new players from unlocking anything if they want to go back and play some of the old games to earn rewards.

Also, 343 needs to tell us what these legacy rewards are. They’ve hinted at them, but that’s months of wasted time that I could have spent working towards them.

Like Tuhin said, they are already doing this kind of with the Halo 5 152 reward. It would be interesting to see them give rewards for people who have played the games all the way back to the 360 days or heck even to the OG Xbox, but then people would complain that they cannot get those. I saw a thread on here somewhere where someone was talking about how preorder incentives through different retailers sucked because they couldn’t get it by preordering through Steam. It would be much the same here where people would say that it isn’t fair that they can’t access these rewards because either they didn’t own a 360 or just didn’t play Halo back then. At least with the Halo 5 reward they gave players over a year to try to grind for it if they really wanted it plus technically Halo 5 is the current Halo game out that is playable.

While I totally understand your reasoning, I also think it’s fair to have certain insignia/profile badges that might only be available to those who have the achievements or what have you, even if you can’t technically “go back and get it”. It doesn’t have to be something over-the-top or something that legendary, but I do think it’s cool to give those types of shoutouts to those who were there all the way back then, in the essence that it would distinguish people who have been playing for years, as opposed to someone who is new to the game but went back and got the same unlock because they booted up Halo 3 the day before or something.
Just my take, I’m a big fan of the old games lol

I would love armor sets for having the legend achievement and for the laso achievement. but I do worry how pointless it is since 343 has always opened legacy awards to everyone after a while. interested in what other rewards we get since they have confirmed there will be more.

"Chris Blohm: Out of the gate players can get starting gear and get rewards from… legacy rewards (H5’s SR 152, for example)…" now normally you dont list your only reward as an example and in a post that has plenty of chances for them to edit mistakes it still says "legacy rewardS" and you normally dont add an S to a single item (unless you are giving ownership and what not)

I’d hope they could do this, but I’m not sure how the new players/players who don’t meet the requirement would feel, so I probably would say to keep the rewards small like the 152 reward

I didn’t even know they were doing a legacy award for 152 in Halo 5! That’s pretty awesome although I’m way out of the running for that. I hope they show some love to the MCC!

So they’ve already said that there will be legacy rewards in Infinite, we just don’t know what they are, or what they’ll be for. I would assume MCC will be some rewards for Infinite, and fear not… MCC will be around for quite a while. It’d be nice to see them do something for us OG Halo players, but how do you calculate that they’ve changed it enough over the years that they don’t have stats on Waypoint for CE, or H2 for the OG Xbox. Rewards for 360 games would be awesome and would love to see them expand it to more than just completion things. I’m not a legendary player… so I’ll most likely never 100% a Halo game, and I’m fine with that, but they could do a max rank thing for games like Reach and H4, or hitting certain difficult achievements (like the Vidmaster series), or completing a certain percentage of achievements (like they did in the Waypoint app on 360)…

And I’m sorry, this is going to sound harsh… but the oldest 360 Halo game (H3) has been out since 07, you’ve had 14 years now to go and play it, especially since they announced the server sunsetting last year… that argument doesn’t hold a lot of weight. If earning those achievements was that important to you, regardless of getting some type of reward or not… you should have played the game. I’m working on that now, and I know I’m running out of time and there will be achievements I’ll miss out on, which means I’ll probably miss out on the rewards to (depending on what 343 comes up with). And I’m ok with that… it is what it is, and I have to live with the gaming decisions I’ve made… it’s not 343’s fault…

All that being said, we should be letting 343 focus on putting out a stellar game instead of taking issue with the fact that they haven’t shown us rewards we could potentially earn. Infinite is supposed to have at least a 10 year lifespan, and Microsoft can’t even get consoles in the hands of the games that want them so they can play the game. And 343 is going to be releasing a game in a not 100% finished state… the rewards will come in time… updates and fixes will come in time, we just need to be patient and let them actually release something before we start getting testy and gathering the pitch forks because we don’t have the complete picture before the launch… it’ll happen… just be patient…

See you all out there Spartans!!

I personally love the idea of limited access things like legacy achievements. I remember aspiring to the rare armor in games that required skill to unlock rather than excessive amounts of time or money. Limiting the window in which you can get something is cool imo.

As someone who did all of MCC solo Laso, and is almost tour 8, I would very much welcome some kind of reward for doing those things. It could be the simplest armor coating and I’d wear it with pride.
