I’ve been thinking that maybe Halo: Infinite should be the end of the Master Chief’s story. He has already had five games to develop his character and if 343i were to end his saga, they could then focus on different types of Halo games in the future, like a much-wanted new ODST game, for example. What do you all think?

I don’t think it’s time for chief to die yet haha, look at the backlash after they tried to make him irrelevant in Halo 5… it did not go to plan. I would love to see a Halo spin off game though! Like Halo 3: ODST or a spin off game of the Spartans called Headhunters! If you don’t know about them you should check out the lore videos!
Spartans never die. I feel like instead of killing him off he should go missing in space or something like that, but maybe a few more games first.
They could still do some spinoff games without killing the chief though.
Eh, maybe they could make him a legacy character or mentor like they did to Fenix in Gears of War, so he becomes like an NPC occasionally and gives you the objectives instead.

I’m sorry, I should’ve been more clear. In my post, I wasn’t trying to imply he should die, rather maybe 343i should retire him or just wrap up his story in a definite end as Halo 3 did. I don’t think they should kill him, and sorry if I implied that haha!
Considering the reclaimer saga is far from done, I don’t think they’ll be retiring/replacing John-117 anytime soon. I do believe at some point he could be replaced but I question when and who would be able to fill in those shoes. I always felt Spartan-B312 or the Rookie (if he survived to join the Spartan-IV Program) from Alpha Nine would’ve been a great replacement but they’re unfortunately gone.
Remember the huge backlash when they “killed” cortana. Then we had cortana back all of the sudden in the next game. Them killing chief would kill the franchise.

As I said, I didn’t mean to say that they should kill Chief, rather that maybe if they took a break from his narrative 343i could focus on other types of Halo games that many people want just as much.
Infinite is not the end of the Reclaimer saga, it wouldn’t make sense for them to get rid of the Chief now, just as his saga truly begins. Whether he will appear in any games after this saga ends is another question entirely, though I feel like this saga is meant to tie up any last loose ends for the main storyline.
Infinite is not the end of the Reclaimer Saga, however I do think Halo 7 will be the end of Chief’s story, and he’ll metaphorically pass the torch onto the new lead hero of the franchise.
Hard to say. I think personally, that Master Chief could realistically call it quits on the main story sooner or later and the fans would be met with a new character, but the demand to fill in the holes for a new legacy would be deep. Master Chief meshes so well into the story not just because of himself, but rather the characters around him. Halo CE through Reach had wonderful characters to compliment him, with games like Reach and ODST doing so well to compliment the Halo universe overall with hearty writing that made everything and everyone memorable. I didn’t miss playing Master Chief in Reach/ODST, but I certainly wouldn’t mind playing him again either. Lets just hope we could get more characters like Lasky for 343i’s involvement in the series, and less characters like Del Rio, Locke, etc. I’m not a professional writer, but going back on the previous Bungie-era installments makes me think easing the seriousness and the stakes, tacking on some cheesy tropes, and finding that perfect ‘something’ to blend the characters, music, story, and everything in between together… You could realistically make a new Master Chief and people wouldn’t bat an eye. So, maybe?

I totally agree with this. We need more games that flesh out either already existing characters, or make new ones. Reach/ODST was a breath of fresh air, and helped to strengthen my bond to the characters of the Halo universe. I’d love to see the fall of High Charity from a civilian perspective, that would be insane.
No Chief means I’m not interested. Sure I like spin offs and even other characters but I’d only engage in any of it if Chief still represents the face of Halo
I don’t know if Infinite should be the last Master Chief game, but I think that after Infinite, 343i should definitely focus more on spinoff games.

Chief likely won’t be the face of the franchise and Xbox forever. Hell, I expect to only be in a couple more games after Infinite. I expect by Halo 8 at the absolute max, Chief exits the franchise and passes the baton onto a new hero.

That would be fine, but they need to be very clear that the chiefs story isn’t over either, otherwise people with think they are abandoning chief.
Do spin off games. Reach was one of my favoirite games and didn’t have Chief in it. It’s possible even with other Spartans. Obviously an odst would be awesome too.
I think they could put Chief to rest with this game, but ONLY if they have some kind of SOLID replacement for him. Locke was … not that. And the other Spartans were just boring AI except for Buck which personally I think they jumped the shark with (I liked him better as an ODST). If they decide to go away from Chief I’ll support them as long as they start doing MUCH MUCH better with other characters and their development and/or their charisma with the player.
I would be ok if this was the last game with chief. I think its ridiculous to reduce an entire franchise and lore to one character. You’d really have to be childish to think that every halo storyline needs to revolve around chief. Everyone loves him, but we need to put our nostalgia aside and keep an open mind on new characters that could continue the franchise. I want Halo to go on, but I also understand that Chief can’t last forever.
They do not need to kill off Chief to create new stories. The Master Chief is a beloved character in gaming now and to kill him off would be poor decision making. The Chief is as Iconic as Mario, Link, and Sonic in many respects.
I don’t think 343 Industries are done telling Master Chief’s story in the Halo Franchise. They will probably do a direct sequel to Halo Infinite where Master Chief will be the main character again.
I still want to see the Halo spin off video games especially if 343 Industries want to do another Halo ODST video game. At the same time, there is two characters I can see becoming our new heroes in the Halo Universe. Jerome-092 and Edward Buck. These two can become our new heroes in future Halo video games.
