Halo4 and 5 have excelent ideas they just dont execute any that well.
Aside from cortana and chiefs dynamic in 4.
Plus they retcon souxh it becomes absurd to keep up.
Ya except its not even the team from fall of reach and retcons a bunch of things to tie into halo 5 so its confusing if you had read the books anyways.
you call watching a short movie homework compared to forcing the player to scavenge the boring empty open world if they want to understand the story? the story isn’t about blue team it’s about stopping cortana and the guardians which is why they left it out. We go to sanghelios to stop the guardians the whole point of the game. again buck isn’t the main character but it show he still is important some way they could’ve fleshed them out a bit more in infinite but didn’t. all i did before playing 5 was play 4 it gives short explanation but doesn’t force me to look through every nook and crany for the story.
Reach was great! HALO 4 story was okay but I thought the Spartan 4s and Forward Until Dawn was pretty nice addition to the franchise.
What’s wrong with CE?
Yes. I do call it homework. To use your words, I’d rather have that information available in game to find and listen to instead of being forced to buy books, movies, anime, comics etc. It may take a long time, but at least I’m playing the game.
I’d rather these games had told a easy to follow story above all. As is, i think Infinite does the best job out of the 3 games 343 made, If we don’t count Halo wars 2. If we do than Halo wars 2 had the best story.
The story in Ce-3 was never about MC or the other characters, it was about stopping the covenant’s and the flood. Yet we never got confused about the characters that got added because the games explained their rolls. Something that 5 does not do.
He did not fill important at all. It just seem like a “make 1/4 of the Spartans someone the player knows and rest will be some randoms from LFG.”
I did the same thing. Then I was confused by the new 4 Spartans. Then i was confused about the 3 new Spartans with chief. Then I was confused that Cortana was alive in 5. Then the credits rolled. That is the impact of 5’s story on me.
To answer your question about Infinite needing to be retold.
No. There isn’t even a point to do this. The game is not even a year old yet. And over all it did a good job at telling the story it wanted to tell while soft rebooting the franchise.
Reach is great ya.
But im just trying to u derstamd why infinite is the one they want to redo.
And i now have my answer i believe.
Because they enetered the story with 4 and 5.
Reach broke lore in a couple places so for many it would be the one they would redo.
If your gonna reboot, why not CE? Why not start fresh by doing the trilogy again?
It was more a thought exercise.
There plenty of things i like about halo 4 outside halseys characterisation feeling off and the fact it got the worst reslotuion ever, in auxiliary media to boot, the spartan ops story was one of the better elements.
Dominion was a great mode.
Promtheans had tonnes of potential in their chess board design.
Spartan 4s are cool.
The prequel was great lasky is great.
Cortana and chief are great.
I preferred the silent chief but 4 was still cool.
The death star run was bloody excellent the lighting, my god guys that lighting.
But it completely rewrote the universe so if we are rebooting inifinite for the perceived notion of consistency im just making the point infinite isnt the game for the job.
Itd be CE,3,reach or 4.
Those are the games that depending on what your issue is, altered course or ruined continuity.
Im of the opinion that each has fans and we shouldnt unhalofy any game but rather learn from the mistakes made although with each installment i care less as the mistakes get repeated but i digress.
i didn’t start from 4, i started from reach then CEA, 3 and 4, 2 was the only one i missed but after playing mcc all the games feel seamlessly conected except infinite
halo 5 tells you all you need to know, everything else is for the real lore enthusiast. whats so confusing? it’s cheifs old team of spartans, that’s it we’re on mission can be bothered to explain everything, same with osiris. i guess we don’t know much about other spartans but i dont think any games made an effort to explain the back story, except with another game. i don’t remember the games explaining anyones roles i just play and figure it out for myself. infinites the only one that confuses that hell out of me, like how did the manage to take on the infinity when they couldn’t even stop the spirit of fire or how chief was knocked out for six months and no one bothered looking for him not even cortana who seem to still have some power. buck i feel was important to show even characters from bungies other games are still active. cortana tells you in 5 the didacts ship brought her to genesis and she found the domain. it just sounds like you’re confusing yourself.
Man to start off HALO on game 4… Maybe its nostalgia but HALO 3 was awesome on every level - great story, epic interstellar journey, awesome final stage, multiplayer on a level that was so far beyond any console game (replays, large lobbies, join up lobby post game, game type galore, forge, etc.). I guess the only downside was finish the fight wasn’t all true. I thought HALO 4 was damn impressive graphically for the 360 and multiplayer was decent. But Reach was my game of choice due to armor abilities and I like not having the flood.
I’m curious about Infinite storyline and at this point i would just like to know what the story fleshed out in the game was supposed to be. If it gets filled in through DLCs fine, but at least give the storyline out to fans. I don’t like the multiplayer gimmics and the paywalls as most folks.
i you haven’t played the story i would suggest you play it yourself or watch a walkthrough. for me it doesn’t progress the story we had going on in 4 and 5 it just abruptly ends it, and the new bad guy’s dont cut it as the new major threat to the galaxy.
Me saying since 3 would imply pretty heavily I have. I’ve put hundreds of thousands of hours into the Halo campaigns. You mention 5, which had by far THE WORST campaign and PvE. H5 PvE is pathetically awful.
Prometheans suck in 4 & 5. They’re terrible. If you think H5 is a good campaign or that Prometheans are fun to fight then you couldn’t be less clued in to quality.
Halo Infinites PvE and campaign elements are some of it’s most positively received elements. Yes the open world is a let down, but it’s still written and executed as a campaign far better than H5 or 4.
Reach is overall a better realised experience but it’s PvE was never anything to cry home about.
Halo 3 still remains the best campaign.
P.S; if you think the weapons in Infinite suck, it’s you that sucks with them
campaign is no way better than 4 or 5, the only saving grace for 5s campaign are it’s levels, a lot more interesting from infinites 3 environments. halo 5 is made immensely better than infinite thanks massive arsenal of weapons and vehicles, especially in warzone and fiesta. prometheans are fun, at least more of a challenge than the banished. i believe they’re only positively received on initial review but for me it’s gets repetitive fast especially with the very small sandbox of weapons and vehicles. they suck because their the most basic weapons i’ve ever seen, were they designed by an alien or a diy youtuber?
Halo 5 doesn’t tell you the basics. Even as a stand alone story it sticks at telling a story.
The whole game
Are they? I’ve been playing Halo since the first game, MC’s squad was him Cortana and Johnson. He was the last spartan 2 alive. These people are complete nobodies brought from nowhere and I’m supposed to know tell their MC’s best friends. GTFO that’s just bad story telling.
No other game introduced characters out of the blue and made it seem like the player should have known who they were for the last 20 years.
Arbiter was introduced and fleshed out. Unlike anyone in 5.
Maranda keys was introduced and had moments to shine.
Laskey, palmer, and that one guy that yelled at chief had their moments to stand out as their own characters. For us to know their rolls etc. Something that is none existent for anyone introduced in 5.
The pilot gets his moments to shine and have a personality. Same with the weapon.
In game audio log explain this. They ambushed the ship by crashing a bunch of their own ships into the Infinite. Then boarded it and over powered the UNSC.
Self explanatory when you play the game and notice that The Pilot is manning the only vehicle capable of space travel and seeing the state of the UNCS forces on the ring. Cortana had already deleted herself and just left some messages behind, what’s a dead AI gonna do to find chief?
Don’t remember almost nothing about that forgettable game. I remember just wanted the story to end after the 3rd boss fight with the same dude and the 5 level in a row not getting to play as chief.
Fine if you wanna be a -Yoink!- about it than you’re dumb and are confusing yourself about infinites story.
Subjective. You may think its not, but others will disagree.
There can be an argument about 4’s campaign. But 5 has been universally panned by Halo fans, while Infinites campaign has only been paned by people who enjoyed Halo 5.
Generally speaking, more users have given infinite more praise for the story across all review sites than they gave to Halo 4 or Halo 5.
True. The only thing Halo 5 did better than infinite was the destinations and the change to the scenery.
Subjectively true.
Objectively it sits as the lowest user rated Halo game.
And for the record. All the mainline Halo games made by 343i have their issues with the story telling. Halo 5 just makes no sense and jumps the shark. Halo 4 retcons at tone of stuff. Halo infinite talks about a new race of enemies the whole game then does not deliver on them.
lowest rated? both the mp and campaign for infinite are around 3 stars on xbox while 5 has 4 stars, may not seem like much but since it’s for the overall game that still makes it better than infinite.
hows is the addition cheifs old spartan team bad because it decideds to focus on the bigger subject at hand rather than spend it telling back story, and when did the games tell us he was the last one they make almost no mention of other spartans or chief being the last one throughout any of the games.
arbiter was an actual story point in the game of course he was fleshed out because that was the plot of the game, 5s story is more about stopping cortana and searching for chief not discovering the cheifs past although that did seem to be 343s marketing gimmick but i think they were more in favor of moving the story along than looking in the past because it didn’t seem to have any relevance to the current events unfolding. i feel the weapons and pilot not that interesting and was not a fan of their dialogue, weapon was too chatty and the pilot was too whiny and the vilians felt like they had little impact on the overall story and gameplay.
it just seem you had little tolerance for 5, i played through infinite and while the story tries add some impactful points, the actual game felt like nothing really happens, it’s one of those “chief in the books vs. chief ingame” things where it sounds exciting but playing it’s a different story.
Not even close. I’m a Halo infinite hater here more than I compliment it. At best for 5, if you look at just Xbox, they are rated the same 3 stars. If you look at other sites Infinite is taking the cake with 8.0 while 5 has 6.4.

i dont trust other site reviews especially since they’re just initial reviews based on the games launch and with infinites obvious nostalgia pandering it seemed ripe for the old fan boys to flood them with positive reviews. honestly you dont need a review score to tell how bad infinite is with stuff like fire343 and many halo youtubers and even others calling out 343 on their crap.
Sargent Johnson was more fleshed out than any of the new Spartans in 5.
Both of the Keys had more were more fleshed out than the new Spartans in 5.
Echo 419 was better fleshed out than the new Spartans.
Tartarus was better fleshed out than evil cortana.
Gravemind was better fleshed out than evil cortana
Mercy was better fleshed out than evil cortana
Del rio was better fleshed out than anyone introduced in 5.
Name a character, Even the guy at the start of Halo CE that tests your shields was better fleshed out than anyone introduced in 5.
And none of these characters need a look back into their past either. You’re just making excuses for bad writing.
That’s 2 more personally traits than any of the 7 new Spartans got in Halo 5. They even sucked the personality out of Buck and wasted his character completely.
Wanna talk about villains that had no impact? That warden is the most useless antagonist and cortana is evil now because…because…becuase… she just alive and evil now because the writer thought it was “a good twist.”
Ok than stay in your own bubble.
Old fan boys > than 343i era fans boys
I talk trash about Infinite all the time. Overall, if I enjoy something or hate something, then the score a game or movie gets means nothing to me. But if i’m gonna try to speak as objectively as i can, i gotta look at it in a big picture way instead of my own opinion alone.
As for how many Halo youtubers calling out 343i, It’s cool you’re bring them up to talk smack on Infinite and all but those same people talked just as badly about Halo 5.
Never read any of the books so I would not know. All i know is that 343i said they wanted to bring the book chief into Halo when they made Halo 4. Then they carried that over to Halo 5. And if playing the book chief is not fun, then idk why you’re praising these two games as much as you are.
