Should I read the Forerunner Saga?

Hey guys, I heard that Greg Bear’s Forerunner Trilogy is really good. I wanted to learn more about the Precursors since the Librarian referenced them in the level Reclaimer. I was wondering if these books were a good source for that or not. Thanks!

The Forerunner books are the only source of media that delves into the Precursors at all. The final book’s supposed to have a lot more on them and the creation of the Flood. So far, I’ve loved the Forerunner books, and I would highly recommend reading them.

You will learn some more about the Precursors through these books (though not much). The main aspect will be the Forerunners and Ancient Humanity.

Thanks, Toa Freak and M0AaHerder. Maybe I’ll check out the books!

Pick them up if you can. If, for whatever reason, you can’t, check out Halopedia.org. Good resource in the absence of the real sources.

Cryptum is my all time favorite Halo book. Both are great though!

Yes! Good God, read it! You’ll learn so much about the Forerunners and learn a little about the Precursors! I should read my copy of Cryptum soon too… :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s a great series from what I hear.

They’re amazing books in their own right, not just because they’re Halo. I would totally recommend them just because they’re really good reads, plus the exposition of the Forerunners and some info on the Precursors.

Cryptum was amazing, and Primordium was informative, yet a bit boring to read.

Definitely worth reading (the both of them).

All of cryptum was good, but Primordium was soooooooooo boring until the end. If it wasn’t a Halo book I would have stopped reading it.

If you are a fan of Halo book lore, Greg Bear, or just Sci-fi in general. Then yes, I fully recommend the Forerunner Saga.

They also are very informative on Forerunners and give us some interesting details on Precursors.

Cryptum was amazing. Primordium dragged on a lot but still well worth the read.

As Greg Bear does a great job describing an alien culture 100,000 years ago, be prepared to be a little disoriented and confused here and there. I find it both a pro and con.

Right now as well, without the third book, there is an immense plot hole that needs to be filled. But I’m thinking between Silentium, Spartan Ops maybe and a few other things, by the time H5 comes out we will have a better understanding of things.

Another thread about the Chakas/343GS confusion got me thinking the Halo arc in its entirety is turning into a Dickens novel where everything in the present is directly connected to things that happened in the past.

What amazed me about the books was that they’re actually really deep compared to what you’d expect of a novel based on a video game. Definitely worth the read.

Thanks everyone!

I never was really too interested in any Halo books… Until I decided to get Crytpum one day, because I thought it was really cool how it’d explain the Forrunners a bit. Now, my anticipation to Silentium rivals that for Halo 4 itself. So… Yes. Read them.

I hate the series, bah just joking read them they are the best except primordium, that one really sucked.

Please don’t revive old topics thanks
