Hi. I’ve been away from XBL since the first year of Reach. School, work, and other obligations have gotten in the way. I loved the first 3 Halo games, but I was kind of bored after a few games of Reach. It felt slow and just not like Halo. I just got another XBox, and I’ve been playing a few games of good old Halo 3. I’m having just as much fun on it as I once did; although, I admit my skills have somewhat fallen off. That said, it’s still a blast. Halo has always been my main go-to game along with the occasional BF game. I’ve been reading these forums a bit today, and I’m wondering if Halo 4 is worth buying. I am not rich, and I don’t want to waste my money on a bad game – especially a bad game that doesn’t feel like Halo. If it’s anything like Reach, I’d rather just keep playing 3. Honestly, is Halo 4 as terrible as it sounds on the forums here? Did they really make custom load-outs??? Haha! So, help me out guys. Buy H4 or not? Please be honest.
No. Halo 4 isnt a bad game but its not a good one either. If you dont have money to waste, than do not buy it. Save it up for the good games that are coming out in October/November 2013.
Rent it first, then decide.
Halo 4 is a good game in comparison to other top FPS franchises, but good just doesn’t cut it for a Halo game.
It just can’t match the Goliath that was Halo 3. I would stick to Halo 3 for now, if anything changes there should be posts here saying otherwise.
No one can tell you what your opinion of the game will be OP. If you are on the fence about buying Halo 4 it’d be wise to rent it first and then buy it if you enjoyed playing it. I know I do.
I’ll probably end up renting it. I should have also asked what Halo game was your favorite in my post. We all have different ideas of what is fun, and I’d like opinions from people that enjoy the same things I do. Thanks for all the replies so far.
Halo 4 isn’t terrible, it’s different. And it’s kinda funny how the people that hate the most on this game have playtimes of hundreds of hours. Seems like a decent investment to me.
Wait till June, then rent it and decide on your purchase.
Trust me…on that.

Renting would be best. Form your own opinion, and go from there.

What happens in June?

A weapon balance change is happening in June. Many people feel the game is unplayable do to one weapon (DMR), and the weapon are being adjusted to bring everything to the level of the DMR.

Weapon tuning balance will be released in a TU.

Most are disappointed with Halo 4, I think the most common opinion seem’s rent so maybe that’s the best idea for now. As for June I have no idea but I do know microsoft are announcing the next xbox on May 21st so maybe there might be news about Halo 5 plus E3 is in June.

It’s not a TU. The ability to tune weapons on the back end has been here since the last TU. They’re simply going to making global changes across all playlists with the weapons tuning.
This game is terrible - that makes it cheap though. I noticed it is the cheapest contemporary AAA game on the shelves at the moment, so you should be able to pick it up for cheap. No harm done!
I would recommend you get BF3 instead though!
It beats Halo4 in every way.
Like others have said rent it first and see what you think.
In my honest opinion though Halo 4 is a really good game. The Campaign was fun. The missions were designed well, the pacing was good, and the story was great. Spartan Ops is amusing if you play it co-op. As for multiplayer I think its a tight and fun package over all despite some of its issues.
As the others have mentioned there is a weapon tuning update coming out June 3rd and its going to make the game a lot better. You may want to wait till then that way you don’t have a brief experience with the current settings and then have it change on you all of a sudden.

Don’t let battlefield players here you say that. They’ll gouge your eyes out.
OT: OP, Rent it. Don’t let other people decide your opinion.
Many of us do not enjoy it, but you may and that’s totally OK. But rent it first, don’t waste 60 bucks on it only to find out it’s not something you want to play.

*40 bucks.

To be fair Battlefield 3 is actually better than Halo 4 in a lot of ways. It’s actually good to play different types of games sometimes plus one thing I have noticed is Bf3 did a better job at texturing the terrain, then I went to Reach and I realised Reach didn’t do a bad a job at texturing either. The problem is 343i are new, need to start from scratch again.
It’s like Reach except even farther from the core gameplay of H2 and H3.
Basically if you liked how Halo used to play you’ll hate this game, it now has loadouts, sprint, ordnance drops, AA, no weapon spawns on the maps, no ranked and social playlist, unbalanced maps, no in game ranking system so players are not lobbied based on skill, there’s JIP, a lot of lag, bans if you quit too often because of mismatched/laggy games, the game results are based little on skill rather who camps the corner with pro vision and a boltshot until they get a power weapon dropped at their feet because ordnance drops.
This game is frustrating on almost every level, the only thing it has is good graphics. I’ve played Halo online since CE over xbconnect and it is tremendously disappointing to see how this franchise has devolved.
edit: I also recommend BF3 with premium, it has a variety of close quarters and HUGE maps, plenty of vehicles and gametypes and you can even sort servers based on your location so no lag
