Hey guys, so this isn’t a flame thread and go easy on me, but my names DrunkenGerbils and I’m a Call of Duty player. Here’s my question, I’m looking for a good game to play that’s different than CoD to brake things up a little. I want to give Reach a try but I don’t know a lot about it. Do a lot of people still play it regularly? Also does it have a free for all game type?
Well, if you are CoD-based I’d suggest getting Halo 4. However quite a few people still play Reach, so its not like you wouldn’t be able to find a match.
The thing I’m curious to know is- have you played any of the Halo games prior to Reach? I’m not going to bash you if you haven’t, but if you’re new to Halo, in general, then Halo: Reach might not be the best place to start.
I would think it to be tough to appreciate Reach when you haven’t played any of the other Halo games (which seems really silly for me to say considering a good number of long-time Halo fans think Reach is an abomination), but feel free to give it a shot, anyway. It’s a great game in my book and, with Halo 4 out now, it should be very affordable.
Halo 4 does everything Reach does but better, but if you’re looking to get into the series I would suggest starting with Anniversary.
Lot’s of people says that Halo 4 is the most similar to CoD, but to honest, I have real problems with switching from one to another. There are lots of things which made Halo 4 modern shooter (default sprint, custom loadouts etc), but gameplay is 100% Halo with grenade-weapon-melee triangle, long kill times enforcing team playing, intuitive vehicle combat and so on.
Reach is ok, but if haven’t played previous Halo games there is many irritating things which will probably scare you away from franchise: weapons are unbalanced, lack of joining in progress makes most matches almost painful (when someone quits from match, game doesn’t puts anyone in that place, so matches like 2 players vs 4 players are very common), default maps aren’t very good. There is this thing called Armor Lock, and you have no idea how anoying it’s (don’t bother checking out).
I’ve played many online fps on both 360 and PS3 (Battlefield, Killzone, CoD, Homefront, Medal of Honor, Resistance etc), and Halo 4 is different from all these military shooters and yet, it’s good on it’s own.

I have two problems with your post-
-
The OP never asked about Halo 4, he/she asked about Halo: Reach. You’re promoting a game that is not relevant to this forum.
-
I’m not going to argue over some of your negative viewpoints on Halo: Reach, but I strongly disagree with your claim that the weapons are unbalanced. Name two weapons in HR that a player cannot get kills with.
I’m sure you would enjoy Reach - I imagine its pretty cheap now too so you will get a nice bang for your buck!
Good luck!
PS to answer your questions - yes there is a FFA playlist - it’s called Rumble Pit and there are still thousands of players online you will find no problems finding a game.
Lack of JiP makes matches unbearable? BS
I love when teammates quit… It often gives your side an ADVANTAGE.
Lets pretend we could describe skill as a letter grade and teams were matched via Team GPA
Red Team
A class
A class
D class
D class
(4+4+1+1)/4 = 2.5 average grade of C+
Blue Team
A
A
D (quits at start of game)
D (also quits at start)
Was the same average but two players quit! Now new average is (4+4) /2 = 4.0 an A class team!
Even though blue team is outnumbered it isn’t out classed. Since it no longer has its low skilled teammates… They won’t be giving easy kills to red team. If blue team could pick of the D class players while avoiding the A class… It’s an easy win
1v4 loss but felt like so much win, lol
Of course this only happens if your worst players quit… If your best players quit then… Yeah, you are outnumbered and outclassed.
Just to show contrast… This is what happens when your worst player stays in and gives the enemy team free kill after free kill. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw9asi-HIsE
Would you rather have a teammate quit and have 0 kills and zero deaths or a FailMate that gets 2 kills and 10 deaths? Quitters are better teammates than FailMates that stay and fail to perform.
so far reach is my favorite game in the series if you would like you could join my clan to learn more send me a friend request and help beat the game my gamer tag is Atipicalchozo thanks:)

OP asked if he should get Reach. Halo 4 is much better choice. That’s all.

When players starts with DMR (and right now they’re starting with them in almost every match) there’s just no reason for picking up almost anything else. DMR is almost as powerful as in Halo 4, yet all other weapons are weaker. All-in-all Team Slayer in Reach turned into DMR-fest even more than Halo 4’s BTB.
Dont waste your time getting a Halo game, Just stick with Cod until Destiny comes out. The lack of community support by 343 is just outrageous
> Reach does everything Halo4 does, but Reach does it better, with more maps, gametypes, custom game options, vehicles, forge options and overall variety. If you’re looking to get into the series I would suggest avoiding the nostalgia trip Anniversary, as by today’s standards is really quite poor and only good for people who played it 10 years ago who wish to indulge in some nostalgia. Start instead with Halo Reach or Halo 4.
*FIXED.

A Sensible Answer to OP’s question - AMAZING!!!
If you’re a CoD player, get Halo 4. It’s much easier to play and more satisfying at a low skill level than Reach is. But reach is difficult to play and really sucks unless your used to the game. If you prepared to put effort into learning Reach, then get it, it’s a amazing.
