Should I even Play Halo Wars1/2

Right now i’m trying to beat all the halos, I normally have fun but Halo wars just makes me board, so does it have any story that relates to the other halos

I know that Halo Wars 2 is set one year after Halo 5, but the Guardians don’t matter much until the very end. Personally, I have never finished Halo Wars 1 but I will try Halo Wars 2. I don’t think it really matters whether or not you play the Wars titles. And why play something that isn’t fun for you, right? Bonus tip: both Halo Wars 1 and 2 are on Game Pass. Yay!

If you’re not into rts games then you should skip them and just watch the cutscenes on youtube

Nah, I hate watching cuteness only. They really only tell you half the story, the other half is from gameplay. Try finding a play through or a let’s play.

I agree. Also, they can be frustrating if you are unfamiliar with RTS games and the gameplay within each mission does not relate closely to Halo lore.

RTS’s have close to no story in gameplay. Almost everything is explained in the movie like cut scenes.

Edit: I just realised half the cutscenes are in-engine. Kinda fast to post there sorry

No worries we all make mistakes.

Not really having played them both you wont be lost if you watched only the cutscenes

I found the demo to halo wars was boring and figured RTS games are not my thing. I wanted to give the game a try anyway but someone suggested that if the demo was boring the game might be as well. So I suggest skipping it.

In the minority here, but I highly recommend playing the original release of Halo Wars 1 (meaning the 360 version) and Halo Wars 2. It might take some time to get used to if you haven’t played RTS games before, but Ensemble did a great job adapting RTS gameplay to a controller and merging Halore with it. Halo Wars 2 was a broken game on launch, but now it’s fairly good, shady business practices aside. It follows the first game’s formula and makes some minor but noticeable gameplay improvements.

I don’t remember HW1’s story very well but I don’t think it heavily relates to other Halo’s, I’d research that though. HW2 apparently affects H6 so might want to play that one at least.

I enjoyed both of them but in my opinion a game you don’t find fun isn’t worth your time, you’ve got a limited amount. Just my 2 cents.

I would just like to say, don’t feel bad if you haven’t ever played those games. I’m sure plenty of people still haven’t played Halo 2 yet. (I just played that game for the first time last year, thanks MCC) I don’t think anyone here expects you to like every facet of Halo. Everyone likes Halo for a different reason. Who knows, maybe someone out there hates First-Person Shooters but loves Real-Time Strategy and that’s where they get their Halo kicks.

From a lore standpoint, Halo Wars 1 is disconnected from the main series. It does give a good idea of the Human - Covenant War at that point though as the game takes place in 2531 or about 20 years before Halo: Reach. Halo Wars 2 is much more connected to the main story due to its setting and the ending connects it directly to Halo 5 and most likely Infinite.

It mainly comes down to if you want to play an RTS game instead of an FPS.

I say yes to HW1! I was an exclusive FPS player but halo wars 1 immediately sucked me in and I played countless hours of the campaign and multiplayer with my friend. To this day I still play with him once and a while and run threw the campaign. (Of corse I play alone as well all the time)

halo wars 2 I was so hyped and was very let down. The campaign to me was horrible. The cutscenes made the other characters look completely different from the first and the missions were extremely booooring to me. I had to force myself to finish it and never touched it again. The multiplayer I found to be decent (not blitz though) but I still prefer the first more because I enjoy the maps a lot more (among other things).

I think it depends on you. I very much like Halo Wars, but I have always been a fan of RTS games, whereas plenty of other people don’t enjoy them and like you, get bored. While not the best RTS games by any means, HW1&2 are great adaptations of the genre for console, and worth playing if you like the genre. If you really don’t like RTS games but want to get the story content of the two Halo Wars games (which are both pretty good, albeit Halo Wars 2 was better) you can always watch a playthrough on youtube.

OP

Halo Wars 1 is a solid adventure set in the Halo Universe. However it’s very much it’s own prequel tale.

Halo Wars 2 is kind of a separate tale as well despite happening after Halo 5. It involves a separate conflict to the main games and takes place at a remove. There is a bit of a crossover, but it’s essentially a tease and doesn’t tell you anything you don’t already know. The expansion is very fun though and taken together, if you get them cheap it’s worth it if you want more adventures in the Haloverse.

But yeah if you don’t like strategy games I wouldn’t put yourself through playing them.
