Should I even bother solo queueing in the HCS?

So I decided to go ahead and try the HCS playlist. I haven’t played in a while and am trying to improve. I figured that the highly competitive nature of the playlist would help me improve. Anyways, you didn’t come here to hear my backstory, you came here to hear me complain! Out of the 10 placement matches 3 were impacted by half the team quiting (resulting in constantly getting spawn killed or overrun), 1 was impacted by someone being afk for half to round, etc. While I’m still getting back into the swing of things, I was still capable in these placement matches and was able to succeed in a large amount of 1v1 encounters against people who have the playlist rank of gold. Ultimately I ended up placing silver 6 (like I said Im still getting back into the swing of things, and as such I’m grateful for this placement). The reason I’m asking is simply to figure out if I should bother with this playlist assuming that these issues already make me hesitant to play the other, less competitive playlists solo?

Its frustrating because this playlist in particular is extremely difficult when your team is outnumbered. A majority of the placement matches I played were impacted by stuff like this.

I am a solo player and I avoid any ranked 4v4 playlist. The quitters just make it not worth it. Most gamers are pretty weak now a days and quit out the first sign they are going to lose or when something doesn’t go their way or whatever. H5 has a very high quit rate.

Depends on what your goals are. I would avoid playing solo if you’re trying to get the highest rank you can achieve or you’re trying to become really competitive. If you’re just looking to play something to get back into the swing of things and don’t really care about your rank, then solo playing is fine.

While I’m currently trying to get back into things I am still curious about if I should expect much from this playlist for future reference. I though this playlist would have less of these issues, but it seems to have more than any other playlist.

yeah, it gets pretty frustrating at times. I won’t lie, Ive had my fair share of rage quits, but they are usually in social modes where other players can take my place (and, sometimes, when I’m just not playing well and the team would honestly be better off without me).

As a general rule of thumb, it’s unwise to go solo in any ranked playlist (unless you want to ensure that you’re getting the seasonal emblem…which they’re dropping it in the future). There was this rare time where I went 1 v 4 in the Arena HCS playlist and I (barely) managed to win 36 - 32. Still, grab a friend or a whole group when in the ranked playlist.

I don’t want to rank bash since I know there are competitive players in the low ranks, but it might have to do with that. You’re gonna get a lot more casuals in the really low ranks and it’s not as distinguished as an onyx or champion rank so it could be easier to quit out of games. Just my guess, btw. I know there can be quitters in higher ranks as well.

Yeah that could it. The people I played with and against in the placement matches were ranked gold, which I assume is equivalent to maybe platinum in other playlists given the competitive nature of the HCS playlist. I mean I guess it makes sense that there would be issues like this given that these same problems happen in other playlists at platinum.

It’s a shame that H5 is so hard on randoms that anyone, (in general) feels they can’t enjoy all playlists.

I wouldn’t. That playlist is super sweaty and I wouldn’t recommend solo queueing it. The last time I went in solo my team got destroyed. In ranked 4v4 it’s always best to go in with a team.

I solo most of the time, and from my experience, most of the games have had people quit out. If you are trying to rank up, then the best way would be to team up.

I’m a loner and I gotta say, I hated the playlist, so many times the matches were ruined for the reasons you listed and they’d give you just about anyone as a team mate or opponent, regardless of rank and skill, making it feel very pointless as a ranked playlist at times. I was a gold put in squash matches against Diamonds or high platinums, then when I did dominate it was against silvers and low golds, even bronze every once in a while, when playlists put players who’s ranks are a 2 tier difference(like in doubles, swat and now HCS) it becomes a red flag for me to give up on it.

It helped a lot when it came to commendations but it was just an overall frustrating experience. I’m giving it one more shot but after this if I don’t like it I’ll stop playing it the next season onward.

I gave up playing ranked 4v4 all together. Unless you have a team, winning a match as a solo player is purely based on luck of the draw.

Out of all the rank playlists, the HCS one should be the one where you don’t want to go solo at all and you are. You must be a glutton for punishment lolol  It’s supposed to be the most competitive. Solo queuing is hard in any FPS MP match, but especially with Halo as teamwork is more essential. Unlike games like COD, BF1, etc. Where you can go solo and do well due to those MP games not requiring as much skill (sorry but it’s true, ask any pro even) and it’s TTK is much, much quicker! I would stick to soical or other ranked playlists.

I solo queue, but hardly in rank anymore. Yes I agree the match making system can do better but I honestly don’t see how you can prevent people from not quiting. People are going to do it no if, ends or butts. I find people now a days quit at the first sign of a game going bad. It’s pathetic!! But that’s the “I want instant gratification and not have to work at something to be good” people/generation now… very annoying. I agree the matchmaking system can do better and that would help for sure.

I also think seasons play a huge part in this. For example everytime the season resets and you have to go threw your placement matches again, I would say easily half my games are a complete one sided joke!!! Either I’m getting destroyed or I’m destroying the other team and I played with a full team too. I almost always end up around the same rank every single season. Why? Because I can’t play everyday unlike other people. The only people seasons really help is the ones that can play all the time. For everyone else, all it is is a reset and start again. A lot of people don’t want to constantly restart there rank over and over and over again. I’ve been so close to champion, before but couldn’t get to it not because I’m not good enough as I feel like I am but because my rank reset. That is why so many people played FFA before in Halo 5 because people realized if I just keep playing and get into the top four, all rank up and eventually hit Champion. It became more of a grind and less aboat skill, sorry people but this true. It’s not like that now and now you have these “champions” who now can’t make it into Diamond even after the rank has reset and say "the system is broken now, I was a champion and now I’m Platinum!!! No, the system is working now and the reality is you were never anywhere near good enough to be a champion but people don’t like being told that. Hence, if you’re a champion in FFA most people don’t take you seriously which is sad because there are some legit FFA Champions out there but most of them are not.

Since I can’t play piles normally, I never have enough time to get it back up there. I like the idea of Seasons but I just don’t think they work for the average player who can’t play everyday. I’ve heard more people complain about them than I have people like them. Heck, I know multiple, multiple people who quit Halo 5 as soon as they found out about there rank being reset every month or two. I still think to this day one of the reasons why people kept playing Halo 3 was because it was hard to get a 50 and your rank didn’t reset so a person always felt like it was with in reach… But in Halo 5 for the average player who can’t play everyday, it doesn’t feel like it’s within reach so they give up or move to a other game completely.

Sorry to get off topic a bit there but it all related I feel. I truly think the match making system and see go hand in hand and are the reasons why so many people quit games.

I’d recommend anyone who’s going into team-based ranked playlist to find a 4 man fireteam. I normally go on solo but the outcome of the match has normally put me in a massive disadvantage which eventually made me give up ranking up in team-based ranked playlists.

Sucks though that Halo 5 is hard on solo players. Hopefully from what I’m reading, the MM team is working on the issue to reduce the amount of lopsided matches due to organized fireteams against solo players.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I am probably going to get a group of friends together to play ranked for now on. I simply lack the patience to solo queue any more.

Yeah. I mean I get it, teamwork should be rewarded, but a solo queue option should be available as well as a more effective counter to the issues I mentioned above occurring in ranked playlists.

P.S.: Bionicles were the -Yoink- back in the day

I really liked the hcs list, but the quitters have made it unplayable. Totally get the get a team concept, but the irony is that you are most likely playing against 4 randoms. The only difference was the other team of randoms had less quitters

I think they should have a soloque option and a fireteam but the problem could be that there is not enough population and active players. You can also check out my channel if u want - YouTube just trick jumping.

I would have to say that once you hit the Diamond level, it is safe to solo queue. Just make sure to have it on focused.
