Should I buy the game?

I’ve heard from reviewers that the game isn’t THAT good, but the Halo community mostly says that they’re amazed with the art style and story; you people say that Halo is in a good direction again.
A con, is that people say that HW2 is P2W, is that true? I heard that there is a new playlist that isn’t, could you please explain? Another fact I would like to know is if the game has a strong population. I’ve been playing Halo since January 7th 2017, and I love both BUNGiE’s and 343i’s Halo.

Well, I’d say now that DLC is (almost) done now would be a great time to get it. Balance will only get better, and the game isn’t pay to win. You could make the claim that Blitz is pay to win, but there’s a playlist where that doesn’t matter.

Overall I love the game. It’s not flawless, but it’s worth your money at the discount.

Couple of things:

  1. The game is NOT P2W. That’s one game mode called Blitz, but that isn’t the “regular” game and even that has a playlist where the number of packs you’ve bought/have mean nothing. It also has Firefight which isn’t P2W either.

  2. The population is really good for an RTS game on the console that requires 6 people max per-game, provided you are playing 3v3. I play new players every game with a few exceptions in 1v1 and 2v2 (if you’re a high enough rank you’re bound to run into the same, higher skilled players).

  3. As a Halo fan, the game is amazing. Its story leaves a few loose ends that need explaining/typing up, but the cutscenes are more than amazing and I caught myself playing the campaign just to get to the next cutscene.

I’d say it’s more than worth the purchase if you’re a Halo fan or an RTS fan.

Yeah Blitz is a bit play to win if you play it so much you run out of cards. I am not really a blitz fan though so by playing the campaign and multiplayer I have unlocked MORE cards than I will ever need for Blitz!

Multiplayer has a decent population on Xbox One so it isn’t to much of a wait to get into matches. The balance fluctuates with each new leader added to the game causing much wailing and moaning from the player base; however our last leaders will be coming out soon and after that I expect we’ll get patches to fully balance the variety of leaders we have. Its rather good variety too; one of the few Halo games that lets you mess with a ton of units. Much the same way Halo 5 has great weapons variety, the unit variety in Halo Wars 2 is equally broad. Everything from Grunts throwing rocks to Condors fitted with laser turrets! Battles are big, explosive, and have great animation with the units and particle effects. Controls are a similar set up to the original Halo Wars but feel snappier and quicker in comparison with the addition of a “speed move” button which allows quick camera movements across the battlefield to quickly review the situations at hand.

Campaign is okay. It is a step up story-wise from Halo 5 in that it is mostly clear, concise, and well paced. However the story is a bit “paint by the numbers” and not very original (a problem the original Halo Wars story had so not much of an issue really). With that said the voice acting and animation of the few cutscenes are pretty spot on, the new voice actor for Captain Cutter is particularly impressive. Atriox is a good villain but we don’t get to see much of him in the story (if you saw the game’s trailers you have seen %90 of Atriox’s content already). Hopefully the Awakening the Nightmare expansion gives us more time to know Atriox since he is one of the most intriguing Halo villains yet created. Operation: Spearbreaker DLC is rather fun although not needed to “complete” the campaign experience.

The playerbase varies from some solid RTS players to a handful of trolls; but that is to be expected in any type of multiplayer experience. The worst experiences you can get in multiplayer is either 1) an ally quitting the match leaving you alone, 2) a glitch disconnects your ally leaving you alone, or 3) an enemy who pm’s you directly to gloat their victory. Expect a lot of pm’s from people you play against. A few though will be rather complimentary and do help offset the bad experience of receiving a message from a gloating enemy. Good allies can be easily found though. They are the people who will intrinsically be on the same brain length as you. They will help defend you from enemy rushes, capture power nodes with you, turtle your base with you, send hordes against the enemy with you, and coordinate your forces very well without having to say a single word to you. There are plenty of good sportsmen like that who play this game, enough that it is rewarding to keep coming back to multiplayer despites its issues.

The game is amazing. Definitely worth your time and money.

there might be a new edition coming with the Awakening the Nightmare expansion included, FYI. But it’s not confirmed.

Reviewers such as IGN and Gamestop are clueless and stupid in regards to the game.

I’d say watch the review from Act Man and Hidden Xperia.

How will we ever know if the population is that good though without having a counter?

Thank you all for your responses. I am pretty sure that I will end up buying the game, do you think that the Ultimate Edition with the OG HW and the Season Pass is worth it for $30-$40? Do you know if “Awakening the Nightmare” is included in the Seadon Pass? Is the new Sgt. Johnson canon?

  1. Awakening the Nightmare is NOT included in the ultimate edition with the season pass.

  2. $30-$40 for the ultimate edition is an excellent value. Hard to go wrong at that price.

  3. Awakening will be $20, so even if you paid $40 for ultimate edition now, the extra expense would bring the total price to $60. That’s a lot of content for $60.

  4. Most of the multiplayer DLC leaders are not canon. Johnson is still dead, for example, as is the Arbiter. But you can play as them anyway.

I agree it too.
All DLCs are released now (Except for Awaking the Nightmare) .
It is probable that developer can allocate many resources to fix the game balance
