Should Highlands get a remake?

To those of you who don’t remember Highlands was a symmetrical map from Halo Reach that was really really good. The map’s bases were a mixture of Blood Gulch and Containment’s bases and the map fit well with 4v4 and 8v8 CTF and Slayer. The map was set on the training ground used by the Spartan IIs during their training in the book Fall of Reach. The map had fairly healthy vehicle play and had great verticality that I think would play really well with the new Spartan Abilities. It is also big enough for sprint to not have much of an effect on the map.

The map focused pretty heavily on movement to get the Spartan Laser and Plasma launcher (could be replaced by Hydra in Halo 5) and the giant cliffside provided a really fun power position to try and take over. In addition the map had vehicle play that is as great as Blood Gulch, but far more balanced due to several pieces of cover (like the crashed pelican) that don’t make it impossible for vehicles to move around, but do make it fairly easy for someone to survive an encounter with a vehicle.

Also I mean the backdrop is of the Covenant glassing Reach which was really awesome just for visuals and atmosphere.

I think if any map from Halo Reach deserves to be remade (I know some people think none should be remade but whatever haters) it should be this map. It plays well with CTF and slayer and is just overall a really fun map that deserves to get a remake in a new game.

YES YES YES. Killing the fish was fun too

Off of the other map pack, I think Tempest was the best reach map and I really want that one back. It could also fit very well with Halo 5 mechanics, but Highlands was a close second

Tempest would definitely be preferable to another remake of Valhalla. But I still think Highlands would be cooler because it kind of fits the theme of “training arena for spartans” that others don’t have. Plus it’s the only BTB map that has that kind of setting.

I loved highlands! 1v1 was also fun to play on it. Its just so open and rugged. Great for CTF.

It was also great with Assault!

I loved the game play, felt like a classic map. The map itself also had an amazing look to it, with the awesome waterfall and crashed pelican. It also worked well with vehicles. I loved it. And we should bring the grenade launcher back as well.

Rooster teeth described it as kind of a mix between sidewinder, blood gulch, and Valhalla.

I think it’s more like Blood Gulch mixed with Containment and Gephyrophobia. Should be in the game!

Highlands was wasted on a late DLC release. If it’d been shipped with the game, it’d be regarded as a classic. Definitely needs to come back for Halo 5.

  1. Highlands.
  2. Condemned.
  3. Tempest.

They should bring back boneyard…only if invasion is brought back

Completely agree. Although I think Breakpoiny would be cool to. Highlands has so much to offer for Big Team!

I would like to have Highlands, a Sword Base variant, and Uncaged remade in Halo 5.

If they bring it back, they should cut it down a bit. It offered too many routes and was much too wide of a map in my opinion.

Yes

this

highlands was a semi-sym

i dunno i don’t like remakes, though i do like spiritual successors (like lockout -> guardian, construct -> countdown, high ground -> boardwalk etc)
the BTB maps i would like to get that treatment are

  1. breakpoint (poorly designed because of design around invasion, sprint and jetpack)

  2. boardwalk (in reach i thought if boardwalk was made more compact it would of been amazing for 4v4, i also feel if it didn’t design around AA’s and had better thought out design for engagements it would of been amazing, still my top 2 btb map from reach alongside breakpoint)

  3. boneyard (same reason as breakpoint, remove deadzone, make better spawns, make it more asym, create better engagements)

  4. rats nest (i love this map, i just feel it could of done a better job with the interaction between the inside and circuit areas, and made the 2 inside areas for each team less identical and more interesting)

  5. standoff (i feel like it could of done a much better job with the engagements, mt lam lam had some cool ideas, better engagements in the bases and sides is what’s needed)

  6. spire (same with breakpoint, remove the deadzone of the map, make the spire lower to include more interaction, allow for better movement options and engagements)

  7. tempest (just needed more of a wow factor, had a cool concept but just needed some form of map character and unique interaction to make it less plain.

  8. condemned (poor map that had a cool idea, it’s issue is like boardwalk, it didn’t know what size it wanted to be. either way it needs to have better interaction between the rooms to allow for more teamwork and less campy play)

  9. highlands (it needs to be less open and more compact, it also needs to figure out if it wants to be asymmetrical or symmetrical)

  10. avalanche (little amount of engagements outside of a certain area, make the map more compact and inclusive)

  11. zanzibar, headlong, terminal, uplift (all godly asym maps from halo 2 and h2pc, they just need to be more compact like the reach btb maps to allow for better player to vehicle interactions and to sort out any kinks these maps had)

  12. containment and waterworks ( both i feel needed more intricate designs to allow for deeper gameplay)

+1 for Tempest

Hands down my favorite map to play on in Reach.
