I can see it for cutscenes, our guy/gal helmetless for a moment, Noble 6 level of talking (not much), clear visor like in ODST cutscenes, and it would be a cosmetic than a feature. No need to change armor defense when ODST’s helmetless option didn’t change a thing, not even the HUD. It was ment for fun.
I’ve got a concept or two that ties into this, so yes. But not for PvP.
You’d have to pick from a bunch of faces and, gasp, probably decide for yourself whether or not your character was a man, woman or something else. Horrible I know.
Anyway Star Wars: Squadrons did that and it was basically the best thing ever.
Noble 6 lost his helmet before he died. Who’s to say there wouldn’t be times a Spartan came right to the brink, but wasn’t facing a Reach level event.
There could totally be Spartans with armor pieces so beat up that it would make more sense to just ditch them. But only with some real nitty gritty style events.
I don’t like this idea at all
I really don’t see a point of this, a random head would just take away how I see myself in Mjlonir Armor
Yes, for SWAT.
Makes sense to die to a headshot in that mode.
Shoot someone in the head and blood goes spurt spurt everywhere, and you can see a hole in their head…
Yea, no way 343 is gonna implement this, ever.
It’d be too complicated, as either stock headed choices wouldn’t be enough and Sims level of customisation would take away too much Dev time. Also, how would you get your HUD? XD
Like scratchy McSkullface?
Absolutely not, also, post limits are absolutely a waste of word salad
a facial preset system like anthem’s/destiny’s so to speak? it would be cool to have for variety’s sake especially if the academy is to become a kind of social hub where you and your mates can look at each other without having to shoot one another, though it would be pointless if we will never see our faces outside of those moments.
that being said if there is a way to work it in it could be pretty neat, rn its just a novelty suggestion, but it could work given 343’s promise to “make your own spartan.”
Anthem did this too if I recall, though not to a major extent, mainly just presets.
MH is a good example of this if I recall, warframe to a point too.
No theres way too much work involved imo.
Its a cool idea but makes for a huge workload.
Perhaps if its like a “legends” thing where halsey, cortana, palmer, lasky ect. Are all being modeled for dlc anyway maybe getting hair to work with helmet colour from the coatings is an avenue worth exploring.
@Cmdr_Brannick implants and smart contact lenses.
hair to work with helmet colour from the coatings? that just sounds like a headache, and since the cores are essentially armoured “suits” wouldn’t it be better to stick stuff like hair and skin colour to the player ID for facial customisation? since thats us inside the armour, which is kinda why the armour cores exist, different suits of armour.
Imagine missing the dig and joke so hard
I prefer having a faceless protagonist, so I can imagine it’s me under the helmet.
But, beyond that, the Helmet is a required piece of Spartan armor for the energy shields to function, not to mention the HUD. So no, helmetless Spartans don’t work outside of cutscenes.
That wouldn’t have a very “Halo” feel to it in my opinion.
Why? So they can charge us 30 bucks to unlock it, and then 10 for every ethnicity, and 5 for your eye color, and nose shape?
Not really in terms of how the system corks tying it to the hair would have no added work compared to the existing system unless their solution is highly unorthodox.
Tying the spartan face to a player id entails new ui ux, back end stuff etc. Not to mention asks for backlash if the preset faces aren’t robust enough.
Making heads that act as helmets by recycling character models for campaign is easiest and cost effective and tying it to the existing coating systems fits it neatly into the monetisation model and allows them to charge for that coating thats identical to the other one you have but now instead of a red helmet its brunette and you can role play as your OC spartan.
The absence of the face model in itself allows for the player to embody their spartan arguably more so than a couple of preset faces or a light caracter creator tool. The issue is both are sort of a waste in funds. So in effect the best option for a face system if people want it is to simply use assets that are already needed call them “legendary hero masks” and use the existing system to create a slight layer of customisation that fits their profit model.
Straightforward enough.
To propose anything more is certainly a far greater headache for the team, for an option that will not be widely used unless they shoehorning in elements to give it “value” and use lots of real-time reflection and screen space reflection in first-person vignettes and such.
All things that could have a significant cool factor but would come with the cost of trade offs and as I personally wasn’t a huge fan of cutscene direction for infinite I would appreciate these touches more than most but can’t say that I believe it a clever use of resources at this time.
@XEQoot it doesn’t appear that they did just looks like they felt it wasn’t, you know, good.
as of right now it would serve as nothing but a novelty, I know
but im saying logistically it wouldn’t make sense to have that feature be connected to anything in the armour hall, would have to be put in player ID or Body & AI, since those are more “universal” in application, if that makes sense.
I just don’t think applying it to armour coatings is a good idea, given how the shading of the coatings work in selectivity, take Jun’s bullet shoulders, the bullets on the shoulder attachments are altered depending on the available coating, that would be dumb to apply a armour colouring system to something that is not tied to the armour exclusively.
@Modod I have to keep using this tag since replies don’t really seem to work.
