I’ve just taken a look at the pro leaderboard and noticed there wasn’t a single female in the list of 32 players.
I don’t believe for a single minute that female players are any less skilled than male players but they seem extremely under represented in the current pro league.
Do you think 343i should employ some sort of positive discrimination in order to correct the gender imbalance or should things be allowed to carry on as they are?
Any positive comments or ones that add to the discussion constructively will get a like from me
However, I can already imagine some of the stupid inevitable troll posts that are going to appear here so I will say this: anyone posting discriminatory comments will be reported.
Edit: There’s been some great replies so far, thank you.
Someone suggested a separate mixed or all female pro league. What are your thoughts on that?
Also, I want to point out, I don’t think for an instant that 343i or the HCS orgnaisers have discriminated against females trying to join up, I just find it hard to believe that there aren’t any in the league at all.
Edit 2: I have edited the topic title to remove the word ‘Disgraceful’ as I felt people thought this implied 343i were guilty of discrimination (I don’t believe they are).
Edit 3: The vast, vast majority of posts are along the lines of “if they were skilled enough they’d be there” or “they should earn their place based on their skill not gender” and in many respects I can completely identify with such sentiments. However, I can’t help feeling that perhaps there are female gamers out there who are just as good as male players but are deterred from trying to make it on the pro circuit simply because it is so male-dominated - it’s potentially intimidating.
Also, a couple of people feel this topic should be locked. I’m not sure why - surely such a topic can be explored/discussed if people remain civil.
I know thise one girl who’s pretty good at H5 but not good enough to go pro. That would be awesome though, seeing women at the HCS.
Oh please don’t start this crap. Don’t put someone somewhere just for the sake of it. I’m sure if any wanted to be there they would.

I think it would be amazing too. I really do feel that a lot of female gamers would be good enough to play, they just need some encouragement perhaps.
Is this a troll post? I feel like it is.
It’s not really 343i’s fault if none of the teams featuring female players placed high enough in the qualifiers to go into pro circuit.
I think it’ll happen soon enough - in the next couple of months - would be good for positive marketing and advertising, too

So there are teams out there featuring female players? Well that’s a start, I haven’t heard of any but it’s good to know.
Also, no, not a troll post. That was honestly my first impression when viewing the leaderboard.

I can’t believe this was actually a topic. Does he really think 343 is sexist or something?
How is it disgraceful? 343 was founded by a female. I think it’s fair enough. Bonnie Ross

I don’t think ‘positive discrimination’ would be beneficial. There are more than enough female players that a section of them should be of that caliber. The question is why aren’t they ‘on the radar.’ Are they unable to get on teams at lower levels due to discrimination? Are they afraid of backlash? It would be a better idea to see why the female players of that quality haven’t been snatched up by teams yet.
Off topic: You know this thread is going to go straight to hell right? If it makes it past a page before something horrendously misogynistic get posted I’ll be amazed.

I totally agree it would be very good for the gaming scene in general.
I see lots of female presenters on internet gaming shows but no females in the HCS.

That’s not what I said. If anyone wants to go great. But you wanting to just put someone somewhere to meet a quota is crap. But go ahead and put words in the mouth of others if that makes you feel better.

No, no and no. You’re doing them more harm than good by letting them believe being less than their male counterparts is enough. When a female pro appears, she will be there because her skills speak for her, not some annoying, politically correct rule…
Since there are no females, there has to be some kind of agenda against them from joining right? It couldn’t ever be the simple answer of that there just isn’t a female interested.
Grow up

I think some teams should definitely snatch up female gamers. I really think it would be beneficial for the HCS league.
Also, if the topic goes to hell I am sure a mod would be happy to lock it. I’m not sure if it will or not, we’ll see how it goes.

No, I will edit my post now that you’ve explained it more clearly.
You’re against positive discrimination rather than female pro gamers in general. Nothing wrong with that - it’s your opinion.

You have to take count of the fact that the female population of players is surely smaller than males, so yes, it is possible that womens don’t get in pro leagues. Not because they aren’t as good, but because there isn’t enough of them. It would be nice to have both male and female competitions, at least. Best of both worlds would be mixed teams of course, but two competitions would be a nice start!
Sexist!
But I wouldn’t have expected to be the other way anyway.

I’m not sure why you think my post is childish. I find the ‘Grow up’ comment unnecessary.
Also, some kind of agenda against them joining? No, but it wouldn’t hurt to put more encouragement there, perhaps actively seeking female gamers for a team.
