Should Halo release before or after COD?

Looking at the Halo 4 population chart we saw within the first week of its release the population was doing reasonably fine until the population suddenly dipped on November 13. What was so special about November 13? This was the day COD: Black Ops 2 released, and with that it took a humongous chunk out of halo 4s population that was to never be seen again.

Although the decrease in population was amplified by the fact Halo 4 was extremely unpolished at launch and COD: Blops 2 was widely regarded as one of the better CODs, I think it’s safe to say that whenever A COD releases, it’s going to affect The halo that’s competing with it.

With Halo 4 the majority of the casuals would’ve just played through the campaign and jumped into matchmaking for a couple games before switching over to COD and getting engrossed with all its little gimmicks and such, eventually just forgetting about Halo 4.

So with the fact that this time around H:TMCC is releasing before COD: Advanced Warfare I am curious to see how it will play out again.

On one hand all the casuals might only be bothered with getting one game and just go for the first one that releases, leaving the other one out.

On the other hand we could almost get a role reversal from Halo 4 to where people just play COD Advanced Warfare till H:TMCC releases and then jump over to Halo and never return to COD.

There is no doubt that if COD releases first H:TMCC’s initial population will be lower, but what is more important is if it can keep its population long after release.

So what do you think? Is Halo’s population better off if it releases before or after COD? I can only hope this time we don’t have such a catastrophic decline in H:TMCC.

It won’t matter, Halo will still be stomped on.

I don’t necessarily consider the MCC as a major competitive game, in the sense that it’s trying to compete with the main launches of this year.

It’s a collection of 4 games, 3 of them have arguably outdated gameplay styles and graphics. That just won’t catch a lot of new people.

However, it is a very nostalgic collection, and anyone who enjoyed any of the past Halos will certainly want to give the Collection a try. The population will be made up primarily of vets, and I think that will do pretty well.

New fans or casuals will buy the game at some point (It’s 4 games in one, even if they don’t have the slightest clue what Halo is, it sounds like an amazing deal). It may hook a lot and make some new fans, but I don’t see it retaining too many from that area.

It really doesn’t matter. People are going to play what they think is the better game.

H5G is the true Competition for Titanfall 2 errr…I mean call of duty: lets copy everything we can because we lost realism to the BF series…I mean advanced warfare.

H:TMCC is a gift to fans and is not a main line game.

What’s the point of this discussion? Both games’ release dates have already been set. CoD is releasing November 4 and MCC is releasing November 11. It’s a done deal.

Halo can’t move. That’s the anniversary date. I’m sure they’ll both sell since they’re both big shot titles. It’s not like back then when Remedy released a game in the same date as Rockstar… horrible idea.

kitkat by the looks of it if titanfall 2 gets a real campaign and a little more customization it would easily be one of the mostly played games. And E sports is highly likely for titanfall 2. this is how i feel about titanfall but when it comes to H5G I’m so skeptical.

back to subject, i don’t think it matters, population will not fall that much simply because a lot of players who play halo don’t like cod…

Seriously? read the whole thing, he doesn’t only ask about mcc but halo in general.

Cod is the easier game so therefore people will leave Halo for Cod like always.

> Cod is the easier game so therefore people will leave Halo for Cod like always.

And not only is it easier, the game also pats you on the back for every little thing you do. Meanwhile, in the older Halo games, if you wanted the game to acknowledge you, you actually had to do something impressive, like kill 5 players in one life or chain several kills into a multikill.

Since I have no interest whatsoever in Call Of Meh…I’ll stick with Halo.
Anyway of course I’d want the game before CoD, I don’t get why I’d want it after a game I obviously dislike.

Would it matter? I’m positive that the majority of Halo fans have made up their mind about getting Halo or not. Maybe some will get both, who knows. Halo fans do know what they want, and it has to be obvious by now whether they want MCC or not. Call of Duty’s release isn’t going to have an effect at all.

Only people struggling with decisions, from what I’ve seen, are PC gamers and players still clinging on to Xbox 360’s life.

Well, what really should happen is CoD should take a really, really, big, huge hiatus.

> Cod is the easier game so therefore people will leave Halo for Cod like always.

People love grasping at straws too whenever Halo and CoD are brought into the same conversation.

Here’s an idea, and this may blow your minds.

People will play what they want to play. Regardless of release date.

HOLY -Yoink-

Yeah, people will play what they want. AW and the MCC release a week apart, Halo fans will play Halo, CoD fans will play CoD. And a lot of gamers are both kinds of fans.

As for newcomers? If they know how to spend wisely, they should be sure to grab the MCC. 5 games of Halo for the price of one CoD? On one disc? Yeah…

And like Vektor said… the release date of both have been announced. With you are so worried about Halo’s population dropping, it should do quite the opposite since AW releases first.

Who cares who has more players, it doesn’t matter anymore. This game is pretty much strictly for Halo fans, its like a huge gift to us. People who like this game more will play this game more. People who like cod more will play cod more.

I’ld like to see CoD’s population decline after Halo MCC release, but let’s keep realistic. In current situation I’m just happy that I’ll share battlefield with right people from the beginning. No more “limited” Bungie fanboys (those will probably stick to Destiny) or as awful XBL brats. Maybe I’ll even start using microphone…
