What? Why is that hard to believe? The first time I played Halo was at a friends house in November 2001, and since April 2002 I own the OG XBox together with DoA3, Oddworld and Halo Combat Evolved. What’s so hard to believe?
halo 5 multiplayer is great. Being able to search custom games live is an amazing feature that i really hope they improve even more.
it would be great to take a lot from halo 5 MP into infinite, and add in objective-based multiplayer experiences – especially if you can Forge custom objectives and game modes that change within a game. just give the Forgers more flexibility and options and they will turn out some amazing experiences
No, it really shouldn’t. The simple reason being that “Advanced Mobility” has never been especially popular(sprint alone is at least arguable). Titanfall started the trend and despite the massive pre launch hype and gameplay that was well received it never really took off. The most “successful” instance of “advanced mobility” was with CoD and even then it didn’t even last 3 years before people were already done with it resulting in the most disliked youtube video of all time with Infinite Warfare. Halo 5 certainly didn’t set the world on fire and beyond that we saw Titanfall 2 fail again(thought to be fair there was a lot working against that game), despite being critically well received and some other high profile failures like Lawbreakers.
There just isn’t any evidence that “advanced mobility” is any sort of “next step” in shooter design that is worth continuing. The argument that we have to continue with Halo 5’s direction because “that is just what the market wants” just doesn’t hold any water.
Chasing trends is not “evolving” or “going forward.” Game design isn’t a simple matter of going “forwards” vs going “backwards” because there isn’t a linear path to the “perfect” shooter, just a constantly spreading branches. To paraphrase Jim Sterling “there is no perfect shooter, only perfect shooters”
Now personally I would prefer a classic style Halo game, but whatever direction 343 decides to go in I hope it is based on what makes Halo Halo rather than what focus groups deem popular or unpopular for that matter.

The custom game search is awesome, I agree. No doubt that will be back for 6. The spartan abilities are the main issue debated. I really think if they went back to base Halo 3, then added onto it some cool ideas and great maps it could be a great and popular title for years to come. I love the art style in the trailer, so I’m hoping that is sign of a more classic style to come throughout the whole game.

Same here haha. There’s definitely an older set of Halo fans. I remember my brother and I taking our absolute brick of an xbox (that og one had some heft) to friends houses so many days.
This is always the argument going into the next ‘AAA’ title what should the next game play be, there is actually quite a simple answer which is just that… simplicity; sometimes less is more.
I noticed in the case of Halo 5: Guardians a lot of the standard mechanics and commands were overburdening the controller without the need of “complicated” button combinations however for a “classic” title like Halo 2 it was a lot more straight forward and left the skill gap to be developed by the players; it’s all about doing basic fundamentals better than the other player.
For me personally I think it needs to be faster than older titles but slower than default Halo 5: Guardians and return it to more gun skill and punishable gameplay. In other words H5 HCS Movement with H2 Gun Skill.

I can understand a lot of people disbelieving people saying they played since 2001. Its also understandable why a lot of folks would get in an uproar of not being belived. But to point it out heres the facts. Its the same case scenario as world of Warcraft for example. You have a lot of folks who say yeah I played classic wow. But in truth a lot of folks actualy heard about it read about it or saw videos on it. A lot of it is that folks lay claim to it to eathier a give themselves credibility. Or to make themselves look as if they been an old school halo fan. Truth is there is definatley old school halo fans out there. Theres also new school halo fans out there. The problem is its hard to prove unless you have a photo of the disk ect. It dosent mean that there areant players since halo 1. I for example have played halo 1. It was my first fps. I remember the campaign. The Cartagrapher level. Blowing up the piller of autaumn. And Johnson and the elite hugging eatch other as the ship blew up if you beat the game on legendary. It was a good game.
P.S. Another reason is because if you look at the facts halo 1 wasn’t able to be played online. So a lot of folks probley refrence 2 due to being able to play on xbox live.
Infinite (and probably future games) will probably play like Halo 3 since that is the only gameplay that is halo (not my opinion just how the community acts)

I prefer H2A gameplay over halo 3 gameplay and I generally I don’t enjoy playing halo 3 MP as much compared to other fans

h2 was my fav so I hope for any semblance of either tbh
No. And I’m not saying that because of opinions on enhanced movement. I’m saying that because it’d feel boring if it was just a copy and paste of halo 5. Every game has some kind of change in gameplay from each other and it’d be disappointing if 343 didn’t atleast try to change it up. It’d be preferable if there were less abilities though imo. Also I would like clamber to stay.
To be honest, I don’t really feel on board with H5 multi returning. Aside from warzone firefight and Super fiesta(which I’ve been playing alot), I don’t feel much drive to play the rest of it, I’d rather return to Reach or MCC if I really want to play halo multiplayer. I think I’d like Halo infinite to dial back a bit on some of the things of halo 5 and be its own beast.
To put some context on what I mean by things to dial back, I’m specifically talking about Smart-Scope/ADS and the Spartan abilities. I don’t mind the precision weapons( and magnum as well) having it or weapons like the rockets, hydra and splaser, but I find it redundant to give all the other weapons ADS(especially the melee weapons, the mp designers must have been drunk that day) that don’t really need it or make use of it that much. Also, I’d maybe cut Charge, Slide, and Ground-pound from infinite. I don’t mind the thruster pack, I can live with it. I think Sprint should stay as well, but I’d make an option for the people who don’t want it to be able to turn it off in custom games(satisfy the pro-sprint crowd and classic crowd(I’m a classic player myself, but I actually like sprint)). Aside from that, I can’t say too much on what should be done for Infinites(if its actually going to be called that in the end) multiplayer experience. Though one thing I would suggest is don’t go overboard with weapon role definition, I’ve seen it backfire and it will be really bad for the game.
It’s funny that I see people objecting to the spartan abilities, but letting sprint off the hook. You guys need to stop glossing over it. Sprint is the single biggest detriment to Halo’s gameplay as a whole. Nobody has yet to give a logical/beneficial reason for its return in H6 (because there isn’t one), and I hope if 343 is going back to a more classic feel that they don’t gloss over it either.

This again? Why are people so stubborn and keep suggesting it? IT DOESN’T WORK MATE!
First and foremost, you already can deactivate sprint in custom games. However, if sprint is a base mechanic than level design and weapon balancing are - you guessed it - balanced for sprint. This is why there are so little modes without sprint in H4&5, those games break when sprint is gone. Reach kinda worked without sprint, because it handled sprint like a power-up. Sadly Bungie also forced loadouts upon us though…
At least there was no separate playlists suggestion for once!
