A little mixed on this. The multiplayer had its ups and downs. I would say keep most of the structure but change the ranking, I preferred the number ranks personally.
As always the real answer is to keep the strength and improve off of the weaknesses. I liked the fast paced nature of H5 and it’s good team balance, having unique power weapons and vehicles was also a plus. We should keep these.
The lack of FFA focus, social and custom play, the bland ranking system, and above all the paid microtransactions and lootboxes were all massive weakness that could do a lot of damage in Infinite. We should be sure to avoid these.

Keep in mind;

Internally the ranking system is the same (TrueSkill).
-
There have always been 60 ranks. The old games just stopped showing your level once you hit 50. So when they decided to expand the number of levels they had a limited number of options;
a) Readjust the ranks 1 to 50 (which would have frustrated the Hell out of those who expected to be ‘50’ but now can’t).
b) Add in the ranks to make it 1 to 60 (which would have looked clumsy).
c) Change up the nomenclature entirely - hence Bronze - Onyx (plus Champion).
The other advantage of the current system is that people are ‘happier’ playing people across a wider range of levels. A duel between a Gold 1 and Gold 6 is almost a difference of 12 ranks on the old scale - but people don’t blink at that. At their extremes, Gold 1 and Platinum 6 are 23 levels apart!

I should have specified xp rank and level and not competitive rank, but I agree entirely with all of your recommendations as well.
There were some elements of Halo 5’s multiplayer I enjoyed like the movement and weapon balance, but it was a bit too fast for me anything closer to 2 and 3 is fine by me except the glitches and button combinations.

I look at Doom 2016 n always think how that could be a way to have Halo not have sprint yet still feel fast. If Doomguy can pull it off so can Chief.
