Ever since the creation of the Haybusa armor, I’m sure many have fantisized about a Spartan with a sword, technically there is a canonical military sword of sorts because of the halo 3 armor right? idk, if we got a katana in Halo it would be still decently balanced I could imagine it essentially used like an energy sword but either weaker health or weaker hits (like melee, one hit to knock down shields and another to kill) Do you think Halo could have a Katana in game??? What are you guys thoughts lol…

It’s just hard to balance since the energy sword is so much more powerful/cooler. It’d be like adding a cavalry saber into Star Wars Battlefront and fighting Jedi with it. Just doesn’t make a ton of sense.
Maybe as a prop for some cool assassinations like how the knife is used. But I’ve also thought that assassinations have gotten increasingly more lame in every Halo game as mobility gets more advanced. Easier to escape, easier to get killed while performing them.
Why use a sword when you can have a far superior golf club with grav-hammer technology? Lol.
They may as well let us use a combat knife, but i don’t see how another sword could be different from the energy sword other than visually…

They would need to be a reason in cannon for it first. To somehow reengineer a energy sword to be easily wielded by humans. I suppose you could just make it work just like the energy sword in game, but I don’t really see a NEED for it. Plus there are already tons of katana weapons in so many other games as well like overwatch. From a marketing perspective as well, it doesn’t really help. Halo’s energy sword (along with many of it’s weapons) is iconic and marketable. To make essentially what is a blue katana doesn’t really help it stand out. So, my position is a no on it. But it’s not like I would lose my _____ if they did make one.
Just because it was in H3 MP doesn’t mean it’s canon. Halo’s multiplayer didn’t become canon until H4 I think. So anything prior that isn’t campaign related should be considered non-canonical.
As for the military having a katana of sorts in 500 years… they don’t have one now. So I don’t see any logical reason for a military to employ bladed weaponry beyond simple knife tools that we have now. But since this is a video game and we should be able to have fun with it, I’d be all for some kinda ridiculous gravity katana or something like that.
I mean we never actually saw the Katana unsheathed so for all we know it could have been some advanced future Katana or a High-Frequency Blade or something…I’m not too sure it would make sense to have it in the Campaign but I could totally see it being a fun Weapon to have in Customs like the Golf Club.

Yeah Halo 5 in particular didnt have a good system. Half the unlockable assassinations were literally “stab in chest, stab in neck”.
Hopefully we return to the Reach system wherein the assassination is dependant on where you hit them and your position and your enemies position.
Reachs assassinations arent randomised they’re dependent on where you strike, where you are and where your enemy is. They also vary with Elites in animation but function exactly like spartans except with arm mounted energy daggers instead of combat knives.
I’ve been wanting a human melee weapon for a long time since we have both and elite and brute melee weapon, just not sure what type would be a cool fit.

Personally I think a Pile Bunker would be cool but that’s just my personal preference lol

What in the world is a pile bunker?
While it may sound cool but in practice I don’t think it would work. I mean even in today’s military swords are only for dress and ceremonies. They aren’t issued for combat. H5 has bayonets and that should be about as close to a human sword we get in Halo. Which I wasn’t the biggest fan of those in H5.
There was a 1999 Halo CR machete/sword that was going into the game! I forgot where I saw it but I think it was a youtube video of og bungie employees talking about the good old days

It’s a Large Revolver Mechanism Melee Weapon often shown in Sci-Fis that shoots a Giant Spike Needle forward that then Retracts so it can be fired again much like a Pile Driver Device or Jackhammer but used for Tactical Purposes.
I always imagined the UNSC using Pile Bunkers on Hunters as a way to fight them off & crack them open when they didn’t have something like a Spartan to take care of them.
It will be difficult to beat an enemy or a squad with a medium or long range weapon being a Spartan. Infinite camouflage enhancers like elites and speed would be missing just in case.
I mean, reason-wise elites are ‘supposed’ to be the opposite of the Spartans. A Spartan katana could be an equivalent to the energy sword. Since the UNSC is more simple in their armaments, a natural extent is a fixed-bladed weapon. This goes along with the smokeless powder based projectiles, titanium/coated plate armor, and rigid box-like designs. The Covenant use a very alien (redundant, I know) style of weaponry. This comes with energy based projectile casters, gravity lifts, and other sci-fi spooky tech. A natural extension of a ceremonial weapon is an energy based sword. Conversely, humans would use a similar art style: i.e. fixed bladed titanium (I assume) sword.
Having an actual weapon in the game would be neat. However, I am not sure if we need another energy sword type weapon. Maybe if the weapon had no lung mechanic and a faster rate of fire (firing a sword? eh) would be an interesting creation.
Yes, ever since I learned about the Hayabusa armour with the katana, I wished it could be usable! I think what would have been truly incredible is if, in Halo 3, if you have the katana chestpiece equipped, then whenever you pick up an energy sword, it would be re-textured to the katana!
It could be cool. I like that idea.
