For me aim assist has been quite frustrating, especially when attempting to lead shots with projectile-based weaponry, due to aim assist will usually lock onto the opponent and slow down your sensitivity, this can be quite frustrating when you go from being in red reticle range to out of red reticle range, due to aim assist usually not kicking in until your reticle has turned red.
Thank you for reading this, and I can’t wait to see your opinion on the subject.
Well I’m going to assume you are referring to Halo 4, in that case I think you are confusing aim assist with bullet magnetism, due to in Halo 4 bullet magnetism only turns on for enemies when they are in red reticle range, and because teammates do not register as enemies when opening fire on them you do not receive bullet magnetism, it makes landing shots very difficult.
I am 100% against optional aim assist. You wouldn’t be very consistant without it either (You would be terrible to be honest), unless you are playing with keyboard and mouse which if you do I then hope you get banned.
I don’t see why anyone would be against OPTIONAL aim assist. Though more then just being able to turn off aim assist completely, i would also like a option to lower it.
Aim Assist is essential.
I hate, however, whatever the mechanic is called that moves your crosshair for you. That should NEVER happen.
You’re aiming at a guy and then all of a sudden the game decides ‘nope, you’re looking here now!..’
Aim assist is pretty much essential for console shooters because they don’t have the precision you can get from a mouse. However, the sticky reticule and bullet magnetism needs to be toned way down, or better yet removed completely depending how well the games plays over servers and a better net code.

Isn’t Sticky Reticule “Aim Assist”?
I love Sticky Aim, but hate the mechanic that moves your cursor for you.
Magnetism, I’ve never noticed. I probably attributed it to bigger hit boxes.

If you are talking about when your shooting at a enemy, and another enemy walks in your red reticle range (cross hairs) then the game essentially locks on to that enemy that has just walked by, then that would be aim assist. Aim assist helps you stay on your target, unfortunately you can’t really control who your primary target is when the above happens.
A good way to see aim assist in affect, is to go in to custom with a friend or sign in with another controller, and make sure the other player is on a different team, then stand in front of each other at a bit of a distance make sure your reticle is red, now have the other player move side to side (don’t move your guy or reticle) and you can see as your reticle is tugged side to side following the other player.
I think there are more aspects to aim assist than what you have in mind. You’re referring specifically to auto-aim, I think, and you should probably clarify that, because things like bullet magnetism & aim acceleration (I think that’s what it’s called, it’s where your aim speed starts off lower & very quickly accelerates to your sensitivity level) are all classified as aim assist. I’ve wanted this for a long time too, at least as far as auto-aim is concerned, because as has been said, it’s screwed up more shots for me than it has helped with.
Either way, I don’t really know why people are voting “no”. I mean, what would be wrong with having the option to turn it on and off? Goodness, people.
But bullet magnetism most certainly should be toned down a ton from what it is in Halo 4.
Sadly, Aim assist is pretty much essential for console shooter. A Controller just isn’t as precise as a Mouse.
My one dream for Halo, Is to use a Keyboard and Mouse for playing. Aim Assist bugs the Hell out of me, But without it, The game becomes nearly unplayable on consoles…
I wouldn’t even care if Microsoft forced you to buy their own Xbox Keyboard and Mouse for the Xbox One, I just want it to happen.
We can have less aim assist, but none would be a nightmare and pretty damn annoying with a controller. I hate how I die, because some other enemy jumped in front of my reticule. We have no control over that sadly…
Though with bullet magnetism, I’m not sure why we can’t play without it…

My (admittedly rather strange) position on it is that it would create a divide between players. Some would turn it off to challenge themselves, and those people would in turn mock those that choose to leave it on, even though the game is designed around having it on.
Even if that is a minor downside, there’s pretty much no upside to disabling it.
Edit:
Murder Miners has optional aim assist. I always felt cheap for leaving it on, even though it’s really hard to play without it. When I turned it off, I felt heavily disadvantaged and annoyed at the people who had it on, even though deep down I know its not fair to be annoyed at them for leaving it on. It wasn’t a pleasant feeling either way, and just created unnecessary personal controversy.
I would like to have the option. Solely because that might finally make the people who don’t understand the impact of aim assist and want it completely removed silent. There’s no harm in giving people the option, really.

My apologies for not clarifying what type of aim assist I’m referring to, there are two types of aim assist I’m referring to and that is Snapping reorients the gun barrels toward enemies whenever a player’s reticle are in proximity to their target and Friction slows the player’s turn rate as soon as their reticule passes over an enemy. What it does is that it slows the player’s top speed, and then dramatically decrease the rate at which the crosshair will slow down when the player release the stick, these are the two that I am referring to in my first post and these are the two that I would like to have the option in the controller settings to turn off.

No, he means try to betray a teammate by shooting him, that’s what it’d be like with no aim assist. Console FPSs need aim assist
