Should Halo 5 Have Free DLC?

DLC has always thrown a wrench into any game the supports match making by splitting up players and the playlist they play in. You could even say it starts to kill the game because people stop playing when their friends move on to the new DLC maps. This past month 2 very popular games addressed this situation by making their DLC content free. Those games were “Evolved” and shortly after “Titan Fall”. The game developers said it was to keep from splitting up the matching.

So having said this I would really like to see this implemented to H5. We all know you desperately need those brownie points 343. This would help keep the population strong instead of it bombing like it did with H4. Now i’m not saying it should be completely free because we know you need the money but you should at least give an update during the release of the DLC that would allow everyone to play the maps in matching but that’s it. If you paid for the DLC you should be able to play custom games with the new maps, unlock cheevos, and get goodies like armor pieces emblems etc.

It would be a great thank you to the fans for putting up with MCC to make dlc free for halo 5.

I think our only hope for free map DLC is if microtransactions for armor, skins, etc are implemented. I’m actually not against this if it allows for Microsoft to release free multiplayer maps.

Free expansion pass for people that bought MCC. Not for anyone else. Or free after 4 months or so.

Paid map DLC normally splits the community rather than adding to the experience. 343 should make the map DLC free (like Bioware with ME3) or let maps be free and add cosmetic purchases (like CS:GO).

I think Halo 5 should make all DLC free to people who bought Halo MCC as compensation to make Halo more popular again

this isn’t for me, I wasn’t upset with MCC broken, I dont care, but I’m just thinking of the fans as a whole

They could do it like halo 2. Pay if you want it right away than give it away after several months.
or have an in game credit system like reach than you could use real money to buy now or wait till you accumulate enough in game credits to buy it, if real world currency puts it out of reach(no pun intended)

I made a similar thread a couple of weeks ago. some people felt that it should be free after a couple of months, others thought the price should universally drop, still others thought it should be free altogether and others thought making it free is a bad idea.

They should implement a system like GTA 5 where you can pay real money for in game fake money or earn the fake money through grinding in campaign and MP.

that way dlc could be free if you work for it.

It should definitely be free for those who bought mcc. That would be ACTUAL compensation… As after all the BS they stayed with the franchise.

I think it should be free, no grinding or anything. And no preorder bonuses. If you have already made the content and then you cut it out of the game to incentivise early sales, then you are Satan. Don’t be Satan.

definitely yes…the way dlc maps are handled atm is just a disgrace

With more developers going the route of cosmetic micro-transactions and free maps, yes Halo should adopt this method. Charging for maps splits the community and ruins the experience. You either make the maps required for the playlist leaving players who can’t pay or don’t know about DLC out of it or make the playlist recommend you have the maps and might not get them at all.

Making the maps free and some playlists have the maps required in some playlists and not just a DLC playlist will give you no excuse to download the maps unless you have data caps

If they include maps in $20 expansion, I would pay for that. Just as long as we stay as far away from microtransactions, I would be completely fine.

yeah why not, should be.
most games these days become filled with microtransactions ect
its just like you paying 60$ for a half game and lead the rest to nothing more but DLC

DLC IS HARAAM

games should be, you pay 60$ you get the product, full
and even additional content as free.

Ohh, I like the way you think. Have you seen the Witcher 3’s businesses model? It’s beautiful.

Maps should be free, that being said I see nothing wrong with them making a model off of microtransactions, perhaps even SP or other types of DLC.

Kind of like Forge Island, you can download and remove it because of the storage.

343 has been known to release free stuff, or stuff that is a steal to buy, so I’m not worried about it.

I would love if the map packs were free. It would stop the divide in multiplayer. In Halo Reach and 4 I barely played the DLC.
