I think it would have been a better cliffhanger ending if Blue Team remained locked away in the crypt yum after Cortana’s betrayal. Locke fails to rescue them and Cortan escapes. Then it would have been an OH SH*T Cortana plans to activate Halo, and has already locked humanity’s greatest hero in a cryptum. No one to stop her!
I’d have prefered she stay dead.
didnt it end with her betrayal? i mean she emp’d the entire earth and made a mess waking up the guardians. i agree with dr halsey

I mean it ends with Blue Team locked in the cryptum. Osiris fails to save them.

Same. But 343 decided to make a halfa** sh*tty plot. It’s a shame. A real shame.
Cortana turning to the Dark Side was a stupid plot idea to begin with. Ending the game with the reveal of her betrayal wouldn’t have made any difference for me.

That.
In any event, yes ending the game with Mission 14 probably would have made for a more exciting cliffhanger - BUT, if we didn’t have Mission 15, we’d miss her moustache-twirling taunts of Osiris that confirm for us for 100% certain that she is evil now (as if we needed confirmation of that after activating the Guardians, but wutev).
I would have preferred she stay dead, but if they had to bring her back, I would have done it at the very end of Halo 5, instead of early on as what we got. That way, we would have gone through the journey thinking she was still dead, a la Pirates of the Caribbean (Barbosa got killed in Pirates 1 and then didn’t come back until the final scene of Pirates 2, so he didn’t really influence the plot of 2 at all).
The plot was beyond salvageable at that point. Blue Team’s freedom would have done absolutely nothing to regain what was already lost.
I dunno. It would be dramatic as heck if we had to wait three years with Blue Team suspended in a cryptum, but there’s just no sensible reason for Blue Team to remain part of the narrative in that case. Nothing the Infinity or the Swords of Sangheilios would need to do to protect themselves from Cortana or defeat her would involve locating Blue Team’s cryptum, unsealing it and extracting Blue Team – they’re just not assets of that caliber.
As a personal aside, it’s also nice that Halo 5 didn’t end that way, because then Team Osiris would have done literally nothing useful with their time.
