should halo 4 cutscenes be CGI or ingame?

I personally think CGI, considering all the awesome stuff that we have seen from halo wars cutscenes it would be a good addition. and if we look at CEA graphics and if those are anything to base what will be in halo 4 off of the transition wont be too darastic a change.

but what do you think?

In-Game. Its just the way Halo works.

The whole point of CEA is to remake Halo CE in a way that feels graphically equal to Reach, not superior.

in-game.

CEA felty pretty superior to me. especially since they didnt use the same PoA model, and all the marines and stuff look a lot better than in reach

In-game would be nice, but I don’t know if it would be plausible to make a noticeable graphical improvement while trying to keep framerate consistent.

Considering the beautiful new graphics, I say in game. Plus its kind of Halo’s style.

i was under the impression that it was already confirmed that the cutscenes would be cgi, like the e3 trailer.

In-game, maybe with an exception of a couple for the intro and ending but I want it to stay close to it’s roots. :3

No, the CGI trailer isn’t even being used in the game. It was a third party trailer.

They actually brought up that the trailer was CGI as a reason NOT to relate it to the final product of the game.

In game! CGI was acceptable only for HW. In most cases CGI looks worse.

Ingame, as long as the cutscenes are actually good. CGI would be pretty cool though.

I fail to see how this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSWCTjhSzkw is worse than what we have seen in halo CEA graphics.

and i know halo’s in the past have used in-game but is that a reason not to use CGI? i just want to know what people are thinking

consider yourself thanked.

This leads me to believe that you don’t know what CGI is.

In-game. It should always be ingame.

In-game, it’s just more immersive.

I can see this argument being made because of Wars but isn’t it obliged to have CGI cutscenes considering it’s a RTS?

In game, but with a little extra polish, like the Halo 3 cutscenes.

CGI does not look realistic, so what is the point? They are both computer generated, one will just take more time and resources that could be better spent.

In-game id say. all halo games are like that. Halo Wars couldnt have had in game cutscenes so they had to use CGI

Halo 4 should just stick to in-game cutscenes. That’s how it’s always been and should stay that way. Hopefully 343 makes good use of motion-capture though… We obviously don’t want those blocky animations Halo 3 had. Halo: Reach took a step in the right direction implementing mocap. Visual consistency between cutscenes and gameplay should also be a must. One thing that pre-rendered cutscenes usually suffer from is horrible macro-blocking (i.e. Alan Wake, Gears of War 3, FFXIII). If 343 do decide to do CGI cutscenes, then make it as clean as possible.
