Should grifball have friendly fire off?

There have been many posts on Waypoint regarding times where people have unintentionally betrayed a few teammates during the match, only to have themselves kicked from the match AND banned consecutively (likely from stacked grievances in previous matches, activating the banhammer). There is absolutely no benefit in leaving friendly fire on, as many players with the gravity hammer will swing at their enemies regardless of proximity of their teammates, and this is a social gametype, so there shouldn’t be any elements of the game that promote competitiveness. I honestly want 343 to remove friendly fire.

If you don’t agree with me, provide a strong reason why, asides from how previous games featuring grifball didn’t remove friendly fire.

Nope.

People would just abuse it and launch the ball carrier to the goal, with a little common sense you can avoid betraying your allies. I mean really, situational awareness is a thing.

I think friendly fire should stay on in grifball, mainly because I just want the ability to kick those who think it’s fun to just teamkill their own teams spawn which can be a little irritating when i just wanna play the gamemode and kill some red or blue -Yoinks!-

People unfortunately couldn’t care less if their teammates were in the way of their enemy. I’ve had many “from the grave” medals because sometimes the enemy I damaged would appear in his teammate’s blind spot when he uses his hammer, and the shock wave does have an AoE (area of effect), albeit a small one. Honest mistakes happen, which is why teammates shouldn’t be punished by other teammates for unlucky situations (or lack of awareness). This is a social game type as mentioned before, so people are going to ease back on being skillful, even at the expense of their teammates. This would be entirely different if we were mentioning competitive, but at that circumstance I rest my case.

As for the issue of teammates launching their ball carriers to perform a GP on the goal, that is a valid complaint, which is why maybe the developers should look into gravity hammer physics among teammates, should they remove friendly fire.

I’ve never endorsed the concept of FF being turned off in Grifball.

If anything, they should just turn off the betrayal booting/penalties instead, and I could have sworn this was done.

Turning on FF in Grifball breaks the gametype. You cannot remove it.

I support removing betrayal boot ability instead.

For what reason mam? Is it because “people would just abuse it and launch the ball carrier to the goal?” You also have to understand that since there are players who betray regardless of awareness or because they do it for fun, there would be no other choice of countering their behavior besides reporting on xbox live (which is a very long progress to go from “good” to “avoid me”).

BTW, did you mean to say off or on with friendly fire?

Refraining from 343 to turn off friendly fire in order to catalyze satisfaction in the revenge of those who have wronged you isn’t a valid excuse, as you’re only appealing to your personal interests in regards to establishing justice than to simply remove the possibility of the problem persisting (or existing for the matter).

Yes yes yes yes yes

Great answer. Now why?

I meant “off” - sorry about that.

And yes, not having FF makes launching incredibly easy. Plus, it takes away any defensive capabilities for teams that get caught on the wrong side of the court forcing them to run back. As it stands, tactical betraying is actually a thing.

Sure, there are people that will intentionally betray but that happens in anything that has FF. Playing with friends drastically reduces the amount of accidental betrayals and makes the betrayal booting a nonissue.

Shortly after the implementation of the Grifball playlist, they increased the # of betrayals needed to prompt the boot option but it seems like that increase has regressed for some reason.

In Halo 5 Grifball its really easy to betray your teammates so I feel your pain bro. All 343 needs to do is turn FF on 50% damage or lower and the problem will disappear. I do this all the time for custom games and it works just fine. But what don’t understand is why would 343 put this option in there gametypes but not to use it in MM? But what I would love to see is 343 turning off the motion sensor for everyone but the person with the ball. People need to learn how to pay attention to their surroundings.

I use my radar to tank almost exclusively. Turning off radar would be worse.

I vote to remove booting or to reduce the amount of damage to a teammate.

Keep FF, remove booting or raise the number of betrayals drastically.
