“Timed Exclusives”. I was rather annoyed how Halo 4 and most preorder digital content in general. I don’t like the fact that some armors or weapons skins are taken out of the game and are made exclusive if you preorder. Timed Exclusives atleast does not punish those who were unable to get the game at launch or preorder a way of obtaining all items in the game, thus getting a complete game, instead of certain aspects being lost to them. Now some may argue that, those items would lose their rarity if they became available to everyone down the road, but I believe something doesn’t need to be striped from the game and made exclusive based on some arbitrary means to be rare, all it needs is to be difficult to obtain, but still obtainable, regardless if you buy the game one day one or 2 years down the road.
Crazy idea here, don’t quote me on this.
But how about we don’t do pre-order bonuses at all?
They’re a pathetic niche that are only interesting for a day or two.

This!
They’re gimmicky and useless sales scams…

Pre-order bonus’ are fine to have. It’s retailer exclusive ones that need another look.
For Halo 4 if you wanted the Locus helmet you had to order from a store in new Zealand that was a load of crap. Pre-order bonuses should be you get them or you don’t. Not different depending on if you by from Gamestop, Walmart, Best Buy, or some store in New Zealand.

Though they weren’t called this, virtually all of the H4 incentives were “timed exclusives”, since they eventually came out a year later as part of the Game Of The Year edition. (So, they were exclusive for a year.)
The only incentive to still remain exclusive is the FOTUS set and its related items (avatar, emblem, etc.), which had been part of the special Halo 4-themed console.
How about this? Everyone gets the same pre-order bonuses instead of those stupid Amazon gets this, GS gets that, and Best Buy gets this, etc. I have no problem with pre-order bonuses since some of them can be really good (even with that disaster known as BF4 you got the first map pack free if you pre-ordered). Retailer exclusive aesthetic packs are just stupid. If Halo 5 gave the first map pack out for free though that would be cool or perhaps even a season pass discount?
I dont know why in this age of everyone buying games before they come out that they need to add further incentive to.
If they do pre-order bonuses, and pull that stunt again, they should make them unlock a certain set of armor early. After that, we play the game and do the requirements needed to unlock the rest.
But not make them grindy, or pull off a stupid achievement that we commonly see in the Halo 4 DLC map achievements.

It’s mainly to get people their copy just in case the store you go to runs out on release. At least, that is what my reason is.
Publishers and sometimes dev studios, are the ones that make them crap by making a crappy game look cool, slap "super awesome exclusive Day 1 DLC!!1! on it, and mislead the consumer into buying them.
If you are ok with a developer and enjoy their product, buy it. If you’re happy, do another preorder. If you don’t like it, check who’s making it the next time you want to pre-order the game. There is consumer responsibility involved in this situation.
Preorder bonuses should eventually be made available to everyone later in the game’s lifespan.
Pushing preorders in general is just really anti-consumer.
All exclusives, whether pre-order or otherwise, should be timed. Any timed exclusivity should never be longer than six months. None of this Halo exclusive armor or Destiny PlayStation bonus stuffs junk.

Agree.
Also, maybe don’t bundle DLC with action figures that rapidly become hard to find.
