Should Engineers return?

I just replayed ODST, and thought of how the Engineers are a wasted opportunity in both the story and gameplay of Halo.

They where introduced in ODST and had an impact on both gameplay and story of that game.
After that they returned in Reach, in which they are only a support enemy type. The game doesn’t even reward you in any way if you don’t kill them, instead your allies will just do that.

So I think it would be great if the Engineers returned in Halo Infinite.
You could kill them to make the combat encounter easier, but if you don’t, it could unlock points of interests on the map or other collectables and data.

On a related note: I hope more stealth like in ODST will be possible. With avoiding enemies or eleminating them without them noticing you.

the Banished do have huragok in their armies so its possible they could be in-game it is also the case that Infinity also has huragok onboard so we could be seeing encounters as such happening either way.

thats a big if though

I’d like to see friendly Engineers come back too, since at least two were on the Infinity during Halo 5. And stealth is 100% possible with the right tools brother

I would love it if engineer has returned. Humans should have some helping us, and we should also be able to free them from the banished for a reward like you said. That is such an excellent idea. It should be common knowledge that they are slaves oh, so Marines should only shoot them if you shoot them first. That’s something I never do unless I’m playing firefight though cuz I love them.

Give them a reason to be ingame enemies that you can release so they don’t have to fight anymore.
Most of them where enslaved floatin boms.

That would be cool, I really liked them in ODST.

yeah, why not? you can find them also in Halo Wars 2 with the banished…

Mixes things up a little, for sure. Should make them able to repair their allied vehicles, really makes them a target priority.

They definitely serve a unique mechanic that adds another layer to the gameplay. I am all for their return.

I would love a variant of the Reach Engineers where you can disable their restraints/bombs and they begin giving you and your allies shields instead of the enemy.

Yeh I’d love for them to return but hopefully not everywhere since don’t want to be constantly seeing enemies constantly being given everyone overshields.

Yes because the Engineer is a support enemy done right, whereas the Watcher is a support enemy done wrong.

Thats Exactly the thing i could not get my mind on!
Amazing. Thank you! :+1:

Yeah that would be fun, I liked the roles both Huragok and Watchers had in gameplay.

Well, why not? We know that they have helped basically every major faction from the UNSC to the Banished.

Engineers pretty much live to repair things and understand them.

Having them as friendly allies that provide a benefit would be cool. Vergil granting you shields in ODST was neat and its a shame that never really came back.
