Should Blue Team return to CoOp?

I started reading the Halo books back when Halo 3 first came out. And ever since then I wanted to have Blue Team available to play in a Halo game. And Halo 5 finally comes around and we get Blue Team to finally team up with Master Chief for the first time ever. I loved that feature, it was probably one of my most favorite.

But here’s where it gets me. Given the backlash with how we spent more time playing as Spartan Locke and the others than we did with Master Chief in the Halo 5 campaign I’m getting a feeling that we won’t be seeing Blue Team return to play in Co Op in Halo Infinite. Which I hope it isn’t true.

So, what do you think?

Do you think Blue Team should return for Co Op?

Do you think we will get the Chief, Arbiter, and a few Elites like Halo 3?

Should Blue Team be with Master Chief through the whole campaign?

Or should we just return to basic Master Chief from Halo CE and Halo 1?

Perhaps a mix up of both?

Blue team is undeniably a cool group of characters in the Halo universe however their implementation into Halo 5: Guardians didn’t work. The squad mechanics simply did not work and they often ended up being a hindrance more than an actual helpful feature. If they do return in Halo: Infinite I would like to see them only if I am playing with friends. (much like the Arbiter in Halo 3) If I am playing solo however I want to play as the Chief and be accompanied by only the occasional squad of marines.

It’s out of Halo’s element, but it’d be cool if Chief took the role of the central character while Fred, Linda, and Kelly were interchangable between co-op partners and the story dynamically adapted to whichever Spartan was present.

I’m with op I’ve wanted blue team to be in the games for so long and was super excited when they finally made it. I want them to stay with chief throught the whole campaign since it makes the most sense that the whole squad be together, just maybe with the option to it off for player who don’t want the Fireteam. I’d prefer the mechanics and AI stay and get improved on but that’s a whole other thing.

I was originally pretty concerned about whether they’d come back or not but with all the media new media coming out featuring blue team and the latest news about the tv show having chief as one of the main characters along with the hints at “team drama” make me think they’re trying to make them more well known to fans so they can keep them in the games.

I hope not. If anything give them a side game like Halo 3: ODST. i dont think H5 played out well because of their implementation in the game. The squad mechanics also didnt sit right with me.

If Blue Team is with Chief in the game then yes I think they should be playable co-op characters. Also if they are with Chief in the campaign I’d like it to only be part of the game and make it Reach style, no reviving bull.

I feel the gameplay runs better when they are just there with you, no commands or anything. Like arby in H3 and as you mentiomed how reach was.

I agree completely with Frenzy343 and xStrangesThings.

I don’t think the game plays well squad-based where one person controls everyone. Frankly, I found it annoying and the game incredibly easy, even on legendary. I’ve always liked the whole one man army that the previous Halo games had but if you want to bring a friend then that’s cool too, kind of option. Co-op should be done like Halo 3 but enhanced. If I play with my buddy, he’s someone from blue team (they choose) and make it up to 4 player co-op. If they really want to make it cool, make it so if your playing with people, it’ll change how cut scenes look, dialogue that’s used and so forth based on how many people are playing with you. For example, if it’s just you in this one scene the chief says something like “I’m going to x, blue team you secure x” but if it’s you and your friend maybe he then says in that cut scene " Fred and I will go to x, the rest of blue team secure x" if you know what I mean.

I think things like that would not only give the campaign replay value as there will be a lot of people that want to hear the different dialogue and what not, it just adds that much more to the game. Halo 5 single player is the least I played by far. Story aside, I just found it too easy, which then for me leads to boredom, and I just really didn’t like the whole forced squad-based gameplay thing at all. It really took away from the game for me a lot.

Halo campaigns have always been about playing as the lone-wolf, the one man army that takes down battalions of enemies with strength and strategy. Squad mechanics just don’t fit in with Halo; it’s like a square peg in a round hole. All you can really do is order your teammates to shoot a certain enemy, and if you’re already looking at an enemy, why not just shoot him yourself?

On top of that, having 3 squadmates at all time leads the developers to design the campaign with that in mind. You’ll face even more enemies than you would in a solo campaign experience. This inflates the difficulty quite a bit simply because Halo’s AI is just so incompetent.

But this doesn’t mean we can’t have Blue Team present. Halo Reach had a setup where you were often alone, but you had marines to help you once the fight starts to get tough. And for the really intense firefights, you got the other members of Noble team to back you up. Halo Infinite could do something similar where chief gets backup from Blue Team during intense fights, like if they were up against a Scarab.

Chief, Fred, Rtas and Arbiter. That would be my dream team for coop.

I would like if single-player only had Chief and for coop it be like Halo 3 with additional players becoming Arbiter and the other two elites. If Halo Infinite does the Halo 3 approach then I’d be ok with Blue Team returning. Some comment dialogue and maybe even them appearing in coop cutscenes. I don’t want the always with you AI teammates because it didn’t work out in Halo 5 and made the game easier or frustrating. Though 343 can make it so players can select which character they want to play as and could throw in additional characters for coop fun. Say Halo Infinite default coop characters are Blue Team, but someone that has unlocked by beating the game can play as Arbiter so you have Chief and Arbiter working together. While Arbiter spawns with covenant weapons. Or maybe even a different approach of beating LASO you unlock the ability to use your multiplayer character so you see Chief being help by your Spartan 4 (kind of like Halo Reach but its a unlock). Coop doesn’t have to be cannon and can have some fun. Maybe even have a funny coop character say find all the easter eggs and unlock Yap Yap the Destroyer as a playable coop character. Though doesn’t have to be crazy stuff like that maybe just fireteam Osiris, Palmer, and maybe even Alpha Nine as coop characters.

I just don’t want the Halo 5 always with you Spartan AI. Leave that for an offshoot game. Maybe something like Alpha Nine game to have those squad base elements. Something that has a lot of time to work on.

It ruins the gameplay.

Conquering high difficulties on older Halo’s was much more rewarding-- you had to plan out your attack, figure out which order to kill enemies, where to approach from, etc…

With blue team, the game was too easy so they simply increased the damage output of enemies and brought in all this annoying teleportation and promethean dogs.

Instead of “flowing” through the level in a strategic fashion, mixing risk & reward…
you just end up running against a brick wall over & over until eventually the AI does something useful.

When you finally succeed, it’s more to do with random luck or just doing it super slow & boring, rather than planning & executing that one “perfect route.”

Maybe if it was just in co op, but they would probably have to explain why you’re suddenly a different character. I hope the squad stuff for single player stays in H5 though.

Yes and no. It would be wonderful for Blue Team to return in Halo Infinite, then again the squad ai based system from Halo 5 was a bad idea

That honestly would be one of the greatest things to ever happen to Halo.

Great idea!

My idea for the team if they bring it back is: Chief, Arbiter, Sarah, and Locke. As seen at the end of H5.

If Blue Team were to return, they should don the Mark Gen 1 series of armor, if Cortana suddenly attacked Sangheilios after the ending of Halo 5. My ideal armor for Blue Team would be:
John, Mark 6 GEN 1
Fred, Mark 4 GEN 1 and Noble helmet
Kelly, Mark 5 GEN 1 and EVA GEN 1 helmet
Linda, Mark 5 (B) with Tactical/Patrol body and Operator GEN 1 helmet

All would be the olive/sage green with various blue markings and a gold visor.

I think Blue Team could sort of return but I’d rather co-op go back to how it was done in classic Halo where other players would fill the spots of extra’s while Single player goes back to single player without bots reviving me/team-mates all the time, where friendlies would go away sometimes or in some cases support the player for a while before going somewhere else.

As for co-op I’d suggest mix of Elites, Spartans since we should have some Elite allies, I guess that would depend on what player wanted to pick as their main custom character.

I wouldn’t mind as long as I could pick and choose which Spartans were in my group. Be it Blue Team, Osiris or my/teammates’ Spartan from Wargames.

I’m on the fence about having forced companions through campaign. It really depends on what type of experience this game will be.

I’ve been thinking about this for months and I personally believe Halo Infinite should have Blue Team as the co-op players, but they only with the number of players are playing. For example, Player 2 is Kelly, Player 3 is Linda, and Player 4 is Fred. If there are only two players playing the game, only Chief and Kelly will be in the game, but the co-op players would not appear in the cutscenes as to not have tons of different cutscenes for how many players are in the game. The only time we hear Blue Team talk is when they join the game, so Chief will say something like “Good to see you, Kelly.” and Kelly will reply with “Likewise, Chief.” or something along those lines. I think this would satisfy both the players who want Infinite to only revolve around Chief and for those who want Blue Team in the game.
